More importaint then 2024, is 2022. Give President Biden or Harris a clear majority in both houses, countering Maserati Joe's & Sinema's unwillingness to compromise with Democrats.

. No problem there, but as always I'd prefer a qualified person.

As John Kennedy said, nothing prepares you for the presidency, and
all US presidents since have proved unprepared, he being the last qualified president based on performance.

It's sad that our viable/electable choices have been progressively poorer.
.One could hope that with Trump we have reached bottom, but was he only a forerunner of
the worst is yet to come?

No one voted for Harris. Hardly anyone voted for Biden.
Many enough people voted to rid the country of the Trump administration.

.In the early days of the US, VP was a separate vote from that for president.
I like that better than some coattail rider being next in line.

There are two ways Kamala can become President of the United States. She can legally assume the position if Biden is unable to carry out the duties of office or she can run for office following the current term.

Below I am assuming the question in the OP refers to Harris ascending to the office if Biden should become unable to finish his term in office.

Is she capable? Yes. I believe she may surprise people with her ability to lead the nation. It is long passed due that we have a female president.

Is America ready for her to take the helm? Which America? Democrats, liberals, independents would certainly be amenable, for the most part. Red Square Republicans, white nationalists, and far-right religionists will follow the cult party line, no matter. Real conservatives, however many there are remaining, would be a bit more discerning than the party above nation Red Square Republicans.

Functionally, you're just wrong. 81 million people voted for Biden AND Harris. That was the choice they had. They voted knowing that a 77-year-old President needed a competent understudy.

Harris is competent, smart, and thoughtful. She'll make an excellent President. I admit her vocal tics, and her nasal voice, drive me nuts, but no one can honestly fault her instincts or qualifications.

If she's the nominee, she'll be overwhelmingly reelected. She's a woman, a minority, and moderate (yeah, I said that), in short, center mass of the American electorate. Plus, nothing would piss off the GQP more than a President Kamala Harris. That's a bonus.
 
Here's something else to consider: at this point, if Biden does not finish his term, she can run in 2024 AND 2028. She could be President longer than anyone since FDR.

What if she picks Buttigieg as her VP... I get chills.
