Are we becoming a police state?

Trump is trying, desperately.

But I remain optimistic that he's too incompetent to pull it off. That's the thing about fascists - they always over play their hands, eventually.

America has eight times the number of law enforcement officers as Canada and a crime rate 15 times higher.

You have nine different forces enforcing civil law in any city and a police force for every purpose. Gun police, money police, city police, secret police, water borne police and helicopters in every sky. You have more cops than you have professional baseball players and a crime rate that NEVER goes down.

And we haven't even mentioned shootings.......................

Trump is trying.. No doubt... But elections next year.. Probably will mean the hypocritical, republican cowards in Congress might start backing away from Trump to save their asses... That will make a difference... We'll see..

Welfare but a bottomless supply of money for keeping people in line.

It is projected that MAGA and the GOP have written off the mid terms and face a democrat controlled congress.

They don't care.

It will be the last election Americans ever hold so who gives a shit who really wins? Democrats will sweep the vote, but you'll never be able to prove it. You'll never be able to see those votes, count them or verify them. There will be no more of this democracy crap.

Dictator Donnie definitely wants to turn the US into a police state, that he rules with a flaccid wrist.

I suspect what's happening in LA is a sort of dress rehearsal, a way to shake out whether the military will do his unconstitutional bidding, and a failed attempt to intimidate his opponents. But I don't think the military is truly willing to, say, take over all of LA and enforce a 9PM-6AM curfew.

No. The premise that enforcement of federal immigration law makes the country into a ‘police state’ is ridiculous.

IMHO, the ever increasing cost of “safety net” program spending is turning the country into a ‘welfare state’. The Medi-Cal program alone costs over $160B/year for a state with about 40M people - that’s about $4K annually per state resident (or over $11K annually per person covered) in medical care cost subsidies alone.
