Measured in terms of items like ability to build broad bases of support, national infrastructure, and the like. Are the Democrats stuck with a bench that is one-deep? Are all of their eggs really in the Hillary basket?

Mark my words, there's an Oprah looming on the horizon.
...It’s nearly unthinkable that after all this time, work, and scheming, Hillary would simply abandon her quest — unless some unforeseen wrongdoing emerges that makes her unpalatable for Democrats. But if we suspend our disbelief for a moment and imagine that unethical behavior could catch up with her, the result would hardly be the tragedy many liberals would envision or the boon many conservatives would anticipate. Many Democrats probably feel as if there’s no other viable choice. But despite the generous treatment she’s received from the media, Hillary has never been an especially electrifying or potent political power. She badly fumbled away her first preordained presidential nomination to Barack Obama — falling into every trap imaginable along the way. Nearly every high-profile project she took on during her husband’s administration turned into a disaster. Her time as secretary of state is now riddled with questions. And she has never effectively rallied grass-roots activists to her cause — probably because her only real cause is Hillary. Or put it this way: Even Martin O’Malley would be a better candidate than Hillary Clinton.... In some ways, Hillary is the Mitt Romney of the Democratic party.
Just as in 2008, activists and donors wouldn’t find it difficult to support and fund more idealistic or competent alternatives if they emerged. There are many ambitious senators and governors in this country. November 2016 is a long way off.
Of course not. She just has the highest name recognition for the pundits at the moment.
....and will they survive a primary against the Clinton Machine? Hillary's not going to bow out or go quietly into that good night.

Not that I disagree with you, but how can that be?? How can a major political party have but one person capable of winning a national election? If shes the nominee, shes not going to win. The woman has zero in the way of enthusiasm behind her candidacy. You need to look no farther than democrats here on DP to see that. To me, shes got that "next in line" quality that brought us such great presidents as Presidents Dole, McCain and Romney. From what I cant tell, she brings two things to the table: 1) shes a woman 2) nostalgia for her husband. That's not gonna cut it.It doesn't look like anyone else in the Democratic Party can win the nomination, let alone the General.
Hes been out of politics for 15 years. And even when he was in, he wasn't that good. Its hard to just jump in the middle of a debate when you are out of practice. Just ask Perry. But if a stiff, wooden, unlikeable candidate is what you are after, Gore is your man.Al Gore could mount a solid campaign for the nomination should Clinton decide in the next few months that she will stand down. Gore has experience, great name recognition and the best slogan anyone could have in 2016
He won the first time - now make it official!

Lol !
Al Gore didn't win anything and his Global warming alarmist hackery has destroyed any chance of him retaining any semblance of credibility.
Hilary is the CORPORATE/BANKING basket, same as the Republicans. Yes, there are lots of people who see the need for Big Change and Warren, Sanders, Gore, are examples.
