Are atheists wrong?

Are atheists wrong when they say to a Muslim, a Christian or a Jew - "I believe in one less god than you. Why don't you believe in any of the hundreds of deities that mankind has worshipped for the past few millennia?"

One might say to a monotheist that they too are 'atheistic' when it comes down to believing in Isis, Shiva, Zeus or any of the multiple deities that we know of, though technically they aren't fully atheistic - just about those other gods.
Silly argument. One God, not many gods.

If you see god, then you're already dead.

You're seeing god so apparently not. Anyway, you missed the point and have missed god I suspect.

"The ninth-century Buddhist master Lin Chi is supposed to have said, 'If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him.' Like much of Zen teaching, this seems too cute by half, but it makes a valuable point: to turn the Buddha into a religious fetish is to miss the essence of what he taught. In considering what Buddhism can offer the world in the twenty-first century, I propose that we take Lin Chi’s admonishment rather seriously. As students of the Buddha, we should dispense with Buddhism."

Do you worship Elohim or Adonai? How about El Roi, El Shaddai or Yahweh? Maybe you would prefer Theos, Kyrios or Peter?

Got any goddesses on that list? I'd prefer to worship a spectacularly HOT goddess.

Pics would help. ;)

I worship James Beam and Samuel Colt

And i pray to Joe Pechi...He gets stuff done.

My work's a bit more historically oriented. I do have a pic of Kan'non. She is more attractive than the Mother of Willendorf

Your point was stupid. Tell me what this verse means?

John 1:18 - 'No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.'

If you see Jesus on the road, kill him.

This is what happens when facts and evidence are not part of the equation. In Islam the Sunni and Shia sects have been slaughtering each other for centuries over a few
words neither side can prove.

You are missing the point, *no one* from any religion across all of human history can "prove" their belief. It is not just about factions of any one religion. And it speaks volumes to the core conclusion that there is no middle ground between systems of process (science) and systems of belief (religion.)

But for the purposes of this thread it is why the OP's question has merit.

Because we can show that validity of religion is based on determination of belief then anyone atheist or agnostic has reason to question that belief on why their take is so correct and true given the literal 1000s of others out there claiming they are right in their beliefs.

Humanity has been slaughtering each other across all of human history because of ideological competition, one of the strongest influences on that is religion. It is then easy to also conclude the core reason for humanity killing each other is religion. All of them, no one gets a pass because it is inconvenient for the religion they hold as correct and true.

I simply used Islam as an example, I understand the bigger point your making. There was a day not long ago when disagreeing with a religions tenets could cost you
your life, its still happening in the Middle East and North Africa.

"Keichu, the great Zen teacher of the Meiji era, was the head of Tofuku, a cathedral in Kyoto. One day the governor of Kyoto called upon him for the first time.

His attendant presented the card of the governor, which read: Kitagaki, Governor of Kyoto.

"I have no business with such a fellow," said Keichu to his attendant. "Tell him to get out of here."

The attendant carried the card back with apologies. "That was my error," said the governor, and with a pencil he scratched out the words Governor of Kyoto. "Ask your teacher again."

"Oh, is that Kitagaki?" exclaimed the teacher when he saw the card. "I want to see that fellow."

All you've done is parrot me and not answer my question, which I asked first. Why the hell should I answer yours?

The Zen Master would not recognize the governor's ego disguised in a title, only the man's true face could be acknowledged.

My apologies, I get the meaning now.

I knew you'd get Buddism when you said you can't see God because he's you. That's the problem with most western Buddhists. They go looking for the Buddha outside themselves. They'll never find him.

According to Christianity, nobody can see God's face and live because he dwells inside of us. He would have to remove His essence (spirit) from our mortal coils for us to see Him, killing us. We are all One God with different bodies and personalities.

Prove that.

You've heard the saying, 'there are no atheists in foxholes?' Most people 'hope' there's a God before they die, regardless of how much they profess their denial of belief during their healthy days.

So you mean at the moment of their most irrational and terror filled, only then do they come to believe in God?

Lid blown off.
