The Arctic ice cap will disappear completely in summer months within 20 to 30 years, a polar research team said as they presented findings from an expedition led by adventurer Pen Hadow.
...
"Remove the Arctic ice cap and we are left with a very different and much warmer world," he said.

Loss of sea ice cover will "set in motion powerful climate feedbacks which will have an impact far beyond the Arctic itself," he added.

"This could lead to flooding affecting one quarter of the world's population, substantial increases in greenhouse gas emission from massive carbon pools and extreme global weather changes."

Studies like this prove there is some level of global warming occurring in the world. What isn't proven is if this global warming is due to human interventions or just the natural cycle of the planet.

It will be interesting to see exactly what effect the melting of the polar ice caps has on world wide weather and if those climate changes can in fact be linked back to he melting.

Consider the simple fact, drawn from the official temperature records of the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, that for the years 1998-2005 global average temperature did not increase (there was actually a slight decrease, though not at a rate that differs significantly from zero).

Anthropogenic global warming and its believers have been left out in the cold—literally—by a new report issued today by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). According to NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center, summer temperatures were far below normal; in fact, the NCDC goes so far as to rank 2009’s summer as the 34th coolest on record since 1895. (The report cites temperature data collected from June and August 2009 in the contiguous United States.)

Among the report’s main findings:

- The average temperature of 71.7 F was 0.4 F degrees below the 20th century average. Also, last summer’s average temperature was 72.7 F.
- States such as Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota notched some of their coolest summers ever.

Interesting. I can't seem to find the "facts" he mentioned in his article. The NOAA website he mentions states the below. for June and August of 2009...

I have been waiting for a long time to have a rational discussion of how much/little the warming is caused by man. Unfortunately, it seems that we can't get past those who ignore the simple fact that the planet is warming, and have been debating that instead.

The one that said the last decade was the warmest. Wrong... for that you now have to go to the 1930's.

The temperature of the ocean has a direct affect on the world's climate. If billions of almost freezing water is dumped into the ocean by global warming melting ice floes it will impact parts of the world with cooler climates as a result of the now cooler water being moved by the ocean currents throughout the world.

It's ok. Just ignore science though. It's all just make believe black magic.

Looking at this plot of the 30 day slopes of actual NASA gridded data, the maximum ice melt rate occurs in 1999 and in 2004 not in 2007. Surprisingly the maximum ice growth rates occur in 2007 and 2008, I don’t remember those headlines for some reason. Don’t forget when looking at the 2008 – 09 peak, the data is preliminary and hasn’t been through the same processing as the other data. From looking at the unprocessed data I doubt it will change much.

Certainly the 30 year arctic trend in ice area is downward, even the most committed global warming scientist has to admit this happens regularly in climate along with regular 30 year uptrends. The questions are, did we cause it or not, and was CO2 the instigating factor. The rapid recovery of ice levels has to have some meaning regarding the severity of the problem. This goes directly in the face of accelerated global warming and the doom and gloom scenarios promoted by our politicians and polyscienticians.

Why are my conclusions different from the news reported records? I think it’s likely due to the fact that the scientists used the monthly data which is processed using a weighted filter of the daily data that incorporates a longer time frame than a single month. This means their use of the monthly data to establish a monthly trend was in error and the real record down trends were actually set in 1999, 2003 and 1984. While the record uptrends were in 2007, 2008 and 1996.

Media reports on coldest/warmest are regionally subjective. You need to look at the overall data. I'll even use your same source.

Below-normal temperatures ... were offset by record high values in the West and above normal temperatures in the Northwest and northern tier states resulting in a higher average temperature for the contiguous United States.

Both California and Nevada experienced their warmest September of the 115-year record. Additionally Montana and North Dakota posted their third warmest, Idaho its fourth warmest, Utah fifth warmest, Minnesota sixth warmest, and Oregon registered its eighth warmest.

On a regional level, the West experienced its warmest September on record. The Northwest and West North Central experienced their sixth and eleventh warmest such periods. Below-normal temperatures were recorded in the South and Northeast.
