Any thought that maybe the entire 2A is a massive mistake?

The 2nd Amendment has literally never had anything to do with freedom.
It literally has and does - freedom from an oppressive government.

I'm still waiting for the "common sense" explanation for UBCs.

If we treated guns like cars:

1. There would be no background check to buy one.
2. There would be no limits on size, capacity, power or number owned.
3. Felons could own them.
4. 16 year old kids could take them to school.

Is this really what you want?
Why does the left always compares guns to cars?

It's like the well college educated left slept through the 8th grade

Except if that was true countries like Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia and Myanmar would be the freest on the planet.

Are they?

No?

Hmm......sounds like having lots of guns does not, in fact, prevent an oppressive government from coming to power.

The 2nd Amendment has never had anything to do with freedom, and everything to do with fear. The founding fathers were terrified a standing army would overthrow the republic. They were terrified that a predatory European state would invade. Hence the desire for an army on the cheap. Of course, such a system failed miserably when put to the test.

OK, OK, ya got me. Guns are not exactly like guns. But I still would really like rear view mirrors and turn signals on my guns though. :)

But both cars and guns are potentially hazardous equipment. What potentially hazardous equipment do you know besides firearms that don’t have numerous laws and regulations on their use?

Because they are all potentially hazardous equipment. What potentially hazardous equipment do you know which makes us all safer if left completely without any regulations?

Since your avatar says your American, where in the constitution does it say you have a right to own a car and drive on public roads?

The 2nd amendment makes it clear it's our God given right to own a gun

Do any of those countries have a 2nd amendment? Were any of those countries a democracy, or better yet a representative republic?

In each and every one of those countries gun ownership is commonplace in either a large part of the country or the country as a whole. In each and every one of those countries heavily armed insurgencies have existed for years, or even decades. To the point where US pilots have repeatedly bombed Afghan weddings because the people firing in the air in celebration were assumed to be insurgents and targeted.

And each and every one of those countries has been ruled by brutal dictators for a significant portion of their history, up to and including the president day.

Nowhere in the Bible does it say you have a right to own a gun.

This fantasy that gun ownership was a “god given right” is silly.

The UK confiscated guns. Australia confiscated guns. New Zealand confiscated guns.

Can you point out the actual government tyranny in these three countries? Gun control and COVID restrictions don't count, of course.

In HR.8, the current "universal" background check bill, the law states:
Give a gun to your brother, no background check needed.
Loan a gun to your brother, no background check needed.
Sell a gun to your bother, it's a crime if there isn't a background check.
Can you point out the "common sense" part?

Under HR.8, the current "universal" background check bill, the law state that as long as someone has a hunting or fishing licenses, and the loaner has no reason to suspect that the loanee is a prohibited person, the loaner can loan any firearm to that loanee without a background check for any length of time.
Can you point out the "common sense" part?

Under HR.8, one of these situations in each set of three are illegal without a background check:

A gift to my brother.
A purchase of a gun my father left to my brother.
A “forever loan” of a gun to my nephew.

Loaning an AR-15 to my uncle to hunt coyotes on his ranch.
Loaning an AR- 15 to a complete stranger while we compete in 3 Gun
Loaning an AR-15 to my buddy the cop to shoot on his uncle’s property to see if he likes the trigger.

Loaning a shotgun to a co-worker to carry while he’s fishing two states away.
Loaning a shotgun to a close single mom friend whose violent ex-husband gets out of jail at the end of the week.
Loaning a shotgun to a neighbor to shoot some skeet at the local range.

Can you point out the illegal acts?

Sadly I'm convinced that nothing will ever be done to rectify what our FF's, who are incorrectly and tragically viewed as virtual deities, did to us by including this goddamned turd in the Bill of Rights. I cut them some slack because CLEARLY their intent was to provide for a national defense at a time when there were no standing armies and no means of shooting any more than one person every minute or two. They had no conception of weapons that routinely can fire hundreds of rounds a minute essentially endlessly.

But the only solution is to repeal the 2A lock, stock and barrel...something which has zero chance of happening so I don't want to hear one friggin' word about tragedies, hopes and prayers or any other bullshit that is as disingenuous as anything can be when the solution is right under our goddamned noses.

Otherwise I'd suggest that our right wing nut jobs just embrace what they've brought upon us.

THIS IS NOT "A TRAGEDY," THIS IS COMPLETELY PREDICTABLE AND IS GUARANTEED TO HAPPEN OVER AND OVER AGAIN UNTIL PEOPLE EXTRACT THEIR HEADS FROM THEIR ASSES AND REPEAL THE 2A.
The false reading of the 2nd amendment is the mistake. It was never meant to arm every American it was a substitute for a standing army which the founders did not trust. It is actually quite clear but the meaning has been lost to time and subverted into a gravy train for gun makers and undertakers.

So the answer to both of my questions is "no". You're comparing apples to grapes and your grapes are sour. My point stands, the 2nd amendment will never be repealed. Sorry, not sorry, if that upsets you.

So, the fantasy that hoarding guns prevents a oppressive regime from coming to power is a blatant lie, and the 2nd Amendment has nothing to do with “freedom”.

Yep, anyone who seriously suggested and worked to get it down it would instantly be the target of dozens of assassination plots......which only further proves the point that the Amendment has nothing to do with freedom.

- Why?
- Against what?
- What are you so afraid of that creates the dynamic of an armed to the teeth population of citizens?

Oh let me guess, you are afraid that you and your little militia buddies might have to try to take down the US Government by force of arms. GIVE ME A BREAK. You are living a fantasy and are willing to see all these people die to maintain the fantasy sold to you by the gun industry once they figured out that they had for the most part tapped out the hunting and home protection markets for guns. They needed a new sales pitch and came upon the mystic of the gun and fantasies of taking down the US Government by force or arms or being the hero, good guy with a gun. NONSENSE....utter NONSENSE.

The gun industry now simply feeds into delusions of victimization or delusions of grand glory taking down the US Government by force or arms or delusions of being the good guy with a gun. Its utter nonsense, the industry plies its trade on the weak minded and weak minded is not mentally disturbed. Oddly enough, we cannot even get legislation that keeps guns out of the hands of the mentally disturbed!!!!
Potential is why.

When the people are armed, certain things cannot occur.

My proposal keeps the mentally ill from buying guns.

Must take "Mental Health and Gun Safety" class to have "certified" or "certified gun buyer" on driver's license. Class instructs how to report threatening comments. Courts put you on and off list. People are informed of being on the list. Only gun dealers access list. Illegal to discriminate on lists, but not certification. Lists are buy and five tir no-buy. Redundant system for your gun. Guns must be transported in case.

The populace has been armed for several decades which results in thousands of USA deaths mostly innocent people minding their own business......... then a mentally unstable individual steps up and
kills these UNARMED human beings minding their own business.

And yes millions of innocent family members are killed annually by the orders of mentally unstable world leaders.....some of these unstable individuals are USA presidents. That's known as sending the wrong
message.
Congress can think of all sorts of ways to treat an unarmed populace, but how do you order someone with a gun?

Guns have nothing to do with “liberty”.

Even though we used guns to secure our liberty during the Revolutionary War to gain our independence. In fact, the first fight of the Revolutioary war was the British were trying to confiscate our guns.

Liberty is fought and maintained by being armed.

I'm pretty sure there are airsofters out there with these.

It's absolutely forbidden to murder someone with a gun. There are many regulations regarding where a gun can be legally carried, legally fired, size and capacity restrictions for hunting, etc.

What “secured our independence” was the professional soldiers who didn’t amble off every few months or refuse to fight outside of their home state. Well, gee, that and the French Navy not getting its ass handed to it by the Royal Navy for once. No amount of militiamen could have trapped Cornwallis’ army, and a few decades later when it came time to protect DC the militia ran like the wind and left the regulars hanging in the wind.

Hate to burst your favorite myth, but being armed has nothing to do with “preserving liberty”. If it did Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia and Myanmar would be the freest countries on earth.

I agree......but mass murder of children and people grocery shopping and going to church has to be stopped......we have tried everything else except gun confiscation......people are finally getting sick of this crap......we have to be able to control the madmen in society......one way or another

The battle of Lexington wasn't fought by professional soldiers, but militiamen. The formation of the Continental Army didn't come until after that battle.

......you do realize that the Lexington militia got its ass kicked, right? When it came to a stand up fight the militias failed miserably.....which was a recurring theme.
