Any theories on why Trump is sending troops?

I sort of asked this elsewhere with other questions, but want to repeat just the query in the subject line. What are the various theories commentators and DP participants have as to why Trump decided to send unrequested troops to US cities at a time when crime is down? Has Trump explained this in any rational way?

Even granting that, what more specifically is motivating him to do this? Is it a distraction from the Epstein thing, going after places governed by Democrats, or something else?

And with respect to Loulit01’s comment, have neutral figures, democrats os any republicans expressed concerns about his mental state?
 
There's two that are my top ones.

One is the less dangerous one, Trump like his base get all their information from rightwing propaganda that has spent years making these cities crime ridden hellscapes. It plays well with his rural Maga base that only knows these cities via news.

The more dangerous one is he wants to spark some sort of incident giving him an excuse to exercise more power and potential put into place martial law.

I'm kind of up in the air about which one I believe. He seems so far gone mentally at times I believe the first one over the second, but the second is a real possibility for ghouls like Stephen Miller that seem to have his ear.
 
It is an attempt to cause chaos to excuse more military actions against US citizen....ultimately to have a more authoritarian white ethnostate. He is a POTUS of peace, peace is war.

He is trying to provoke violence to grab more power.
 
He wants to intimidate Democratic governors and mayors while selling his specious "law and order" bonifides to the gullible base.
 
It's not just Trump but MAGA ideology, which is taking the rule of law and torching it. Their agenda is simple: the only law is the law of the jungle. It's rule by force. They want total submission to their authority. There's no 47-dimensional chess here. This isn't a distraction from the Epstein files scandal or anything else. If anything, it's a brute-force reaction to it, a display of predatory power. They're not just sending the message to Democrats in woke Dem cities; MAGA's sending this message to their own as well, and the message is, jump off the Trump Train at your peril.

Judging by the actions of his lawless gestapo, this is the answer. They are being deliberately confrontational and violent; committing assaults and kidnapping. They are hoping to provoke a righteous response.
 
Has something to do with out-of-control violent crime in some cities that the state or local politicians don't seem to have the inspiration to solve.

You’ve already said you won’t oppose Trump out of a cowardly fear of consequences.

Why should anyone believe anything you say about him now?
 
The primary reason is to protect law enforcement who are executing their orders to remove illegal aliens.

The secondary reason is to slap down Antifa and other idiots who are assaulting the law enforcement.

Now...if Trump ALSO happens to reduce crime in those areas, that's gravy.
 
He wants to normalize the military on the streets of big cities. Big cities tend to vote more Democratic. He will use them to influence elections either by intimidation or declaring an emergency and "postponing" said elections.

My theory is that he is seeing if he can effectively end elections in November 2026 and have DHS goons shut down polling stations in Blue Cities under the protection of the U.S. Military.
