Another anti-religion victory for the left

Atheist groups and the far left have again protected America against the evils of Christianity... Just look at what despicable practices they successfully extinguished this time:

Poor Richard's News - School cancels Christmas toy drive for needy children after atheist group threatens to sue

What an absurd way to spin this.

Let me describe this another way: Petulant group of fundamentalists refuse to participate in charity unless they can use it as a vehicle to unconstitutionally impose their religious beliefs on others.

Oh, I get it... by "another way", you meant "lie your ass off".

What's stopping these people from doing a secular toy drive? Why does it have to be for Christmas?

Why aren't you basking in your victory?

I'm sure those 100 or so poor families are behind you 100%, and didn't want anything that came from any organization affilated in any way with Christianity... Evil I tell you... EVIL

In this situation a true Christian would go ahead with the toy drive without ever mentioning the word Christmas.

The people who are to blame are the so-called Christians (read: hypocrites) who would rather cancel the charity event because it can't be about their precious holiday.

That's ****ed up.

I'm certain they're doing just fine without you preaching to them.

Many charities and individuals are able to act in a generous manner without proselytizing being a condition.

I guess the fact that the charity drive does not mention religion or Christianity, doesn't have any religious literature involved with it, and there are no speakers from the organization that will be talking to the kids, just isn't enough for you all.... Just the fact that the this charity organization is affiliated with Christian group is enough for you all to deem it EVIL and want it destroyed, irregardless of how many poor families it would have helped.

Like I said, bask in your victory... A victory I'm sure you all are very proud of.

Obviously you didn't watch the news report, otherwise you wouldn't have made that patently false statement.

p.s. just so you know, i'm not a christian, nor am i a religious person at all, therefore i don't think i'll be preaching to them or anyone else.

I see what you mean. That humanist group seems really generous, volunteering to have an alternate toy drive to replace the one they shut down.

What's false about the statement?

All I do know is that your article fails to mention that the action was brought on behalf of parents. I read about it this morning on news sites that don't link to the entire conservative blogosphere -- one, two -- and sites that don't label every single non-Christian as "bullies". Your source seems to be written by a blogger who would have a vicious aneurysm if his child's public school celebrated Eid al-Fitr.

Yes, celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ is, indeed, a precious holiday for us. Your obvious contempt for it pretty much make you talking about what it means to be a "true Christian" pretty laughable.

Do you know what the word Christmas means?

I get it now... You are turning this into an anti-christmas attack... Good for you... Think big.

Here are a few excerpts from the story that might interest you:

The letter was sent on behalf of a parent at the school. It points to the fact that Operation Christmas Child is part of "Samaritan's Purse," an international Christian based organization led by Franklin Graham, son of Evangelist Billy Graham.

"There's no religious literature tied with it," Mathews said. "There's no speakers who come. There's no religious affiliation at all."

Evil I tell you... EVIL

Christmas is the second holiest day of the year and I revere it. But I keep the message of Christ foremost in my thoughts, and that's charity.

Jesus weeps when so-called Christians care more about celebrating a holiday than participating in charity.

You call yourself a Christian, X-Factor, but you are clearly not.

Your false statement was:

Second, if you think this is some sort of right wing Christian propaganda, then maybe this link will help:

Christmas is a religious holiday. It has no place in our secular government. If you don't like that, you are free to try to amend the constitution.

Sure you do, that's why you snidely called it "their precious holiday".

But I keep the message of Christ foremost in my thoughts, and that's charity.

I see participating in charity as a part of my celebration of my "precious holiday". Should I not engage in any charitable giving around Christmas at all since the very word offends you so?

Don't you see? If the holiday is more precious to you than the meaning then you are UTTERLY LOST. You are no Christian if you think that way.

If you'd prefer sit at home and do nothing rather than participate in charity, all over the fact that you couldn't use of the word "Christmas" in a publicly-sponsored event, then you have no right to call yourself a Christian. Only a hypocrite would disregard the teaching of Christ in favor of the superficial trappings of the Christian religion.

No need. The First Amendment, as written, explicitly protects the right to religious freedom and to freedom of speech.

It is your side that needs to amend the Constitution, if you have such a problem with people being allowed to exercise these rights. Or it should be. It seems that your side has, however, succeeded in getting a twisted interpretation of the First Amendment to be upheld, which uses it as an excuse to violate the very rights that it was intended to protect; and to engage in exactly the censorship and suppression that it was meant to prohibit.

The reality is that you are wrong.

Ah, see, I can't compartmentalize my religion like that or hide my beliefs in hopes of currying favors with others. My beliefs impact me daily. I'm not ashamed of Christmas or to admit that, to me, it is, indeed, a precious holiday and I'm not going to judge my breathren harshly for wanting to conduct a toy drive as a part of their celebration of their "precious holiday".

You may subscribe to the wisdom of Karl Marx and the tenants of the Communist Manifesto, but I sir, do not. I don't see the mere mention of religion, Christianity, or Jesus as some sort of evil that our children, our government, or our society need to be protected from, nor do I subscribe to the distorted liberal interpretation of the 1st amendment.

There are plenty of evils in the world we need to protect ourselves and our families from, but Christianity and a belief in God isn't one of them... And remember, these words come from someone who's not a Christian, who's not religious, and hasn't stepped foot inside a church for more than 20 years.

If the word "Christmas" offends you, tough ****... Get over it... Because in America nobody has the right "not to be offended".
