The label’s latest advertising campaign has been setting social networks ablaze, and not just because it features the Euphoria actor in a tight tank top. Called “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans,” it’s based around a play on words that may seem harmless—but has been criticized by onlookers who see a sinister message lurking beneath the pun.

One ad from the autumn campaign shows Sweeney leaning over the engine of her Ford Mustang. She slams the hood and wipes her hands on the back of her jeans—not without a close-up from the cameraman—before settling behind the wheel and disappearing. A second begins with Sweeney speaking about her “jeans” as the camera slowly pans down to her cleavage, before she reprimands it with a smiling “Hey, eyes up here!” The series’ most criticized ad shows the actor reclining on a couch as she squirms while fastening her pants and murmuring, “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color. My genes are blue.” Then a male narrator concludes, “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.”

This is nuts.

You are a nazi if you think an actress with a big rack is hot.

These people are CRAZY!!!

I don't think it was. I don't even know what ethnicity Sweeney is. She's pale but that doesn't necessarily mean caucasian. Who the hell knows.

I am really, really sure this wasn't meant to say that only people of a certain color have good genes. It was just being cutesy, and jeans/genes has been used in jean ads before.

This is silly and over-the-top, JMO.

I don't know why, but I think you should see this:

MAGA.

Hard to not laugh at the negative reactions to this as coming from a position of total bitterness and resentment.

Curious.

This is 2025 and Sweeney is white. That makes her a Nazi that is trying to kill off all black people with her jeans. Besides, "American" Eagle is a fascist, Nazi organization that hates people of color, gays and all gender non-conforming entities that hay or may not consider themselves to be people.

Hmm… the problem wih irony (satire?) is that not everybody gets it.

This is probably the dumbest outrage campaign in history. These people need to find some hobbies.

Running stories about stupid people freaking out on social media is an easy way to generate clicks and make a few bucks these days. Even Vanity Fair is getting into it, apparently.

Seems like a fourth of Fox News and other rightwing media's news cycle is from scouring the internet for whatever is said by some online random person.

Edit: Just noticed it was Vanity faire....

Absolutely. Fox News knows just how much money can be made by ruining their viewers' days. Check out "Libs of tik tok." It's a gold mine of stories that are specifically curated to make old people cranky and take their money.

Sigh. Another day, another miserably stupid Lutherf post.
He is trying very hard to emulate BitterPill with his sarcasm, but while Bitter is actually comical, Luther just comes across as bitter.
Sometimes it is best to just fly by those kinds of comments.
