Am getting tired of online ordering....

I can call on the phone or make an order and pick it up in person by using cash or credit card. When I call to have a pizza delivered, I pay in cash at the door and give the delivery person a healthy tip for his/her service. I've been tipping much more since the beginning of the pandemic and appreciate all who made it possible to get almost anything delivered to your door.

If I order online with a credit card, they usually have a recommended tip already there, I always give more than recommended.

I tip more since Covid, too. Also, I still use InstaCart and UberEats, and have adjusted my tipping since moving up on the mountain. It’s a little longer, more of a drive, so I make it worth it.

I consider it an insult to have to tip for ordering food and not sitting in. It's like saying I have to tip the staff at McDonalds for giving me my food.

But did you get your cheesecake?

No longer is 'cash' an option? And I also have to give a tip as an option for CARRYOUT? Seriously smh...

Believe it or not you're adding a layer of complexity to the staff's workload when you order carry out. They have to work with customers who are in the store but also prioritize the orders for the people who aren't there yet. Tipping is justified in that situation, IMO.

I tip Subway, Starbucks, and any place where it's a debit or credit card option. These people are underpaid. I would rather customers give them an extra 10-20% than have it get to the point where states feel compelled to raise their minimum wages by fiat (like California).

Then get your ass up and go get it yourself. Those people make no money, and are close to the bottom of the economic food chain, and you are pissing and moaning about a $5 tip on a $30 pizza?

And they don’t do cash anymore, because there’s always going to be some deadbeat who tries to stiff the driver when he gets there.

And don’t worry. You’re getting a reputation from the delivery people, I’ll guarantee. It’s getting to the point that they refuse deliveries to people who don’t tip. I don’t blame them. I wouldn’t deliver to you either.
Yep. And if you regularly tip well, you will find that your order gets “priority”. I always tip well and I never have to wait long for take out food or grocery orders 🤷‍♀️

You aren’t required to tip if you are simply picking up an order. You should tip if someone is delivering the order to you at your house or curbside.

I never have a problem with my order. At least not a problem that the driver would have had.

Drivers know, and they all talk about who tips and who doesn’t.

Meh, I find it typically doesn't make a difference unless I'm a regular. Being a regular nice, polite, friendly customer who tips is what usually gets me good service - usually.

I tip because the entire crew is doing me a favor by doing something I don't want to do. Yes, I'm already paying for it, but I'm probably just paying for the company's profits if I don't tip. Their labor costs cut into those profits so there's a natural tendency to keep their wages suppressed. Tipping gives them more spending power, which also helps the entire economy in the end as they have that much more spending power.

I tend to utilize apps such as DoorDash or GrubHub for take out. And Instacart for grocery delivery.

The people delivering are independent contractors for those app platforms - many don’t get more than a few dollars for doing the delivery and the majority of their wages are tips.

They also get to choose what order to pick - various grocery orders and/or take out orders will show as “available” in the app.

Drivers will choose the ones that make them the most money for the time required.

So, tipping well makes my orders worth choosing first 🤷‍♀️

I rented a Escalade ESV in San Francisco yesterday.
One company wanted $399.00 per day, which is the standard rate in SF.
But then they told me they wanted a $2500.00 deposit as well
I told them that I thought that was outrageous and hung up the phone (while they were still talking trying to justify their deposit).
It took me less than five minutes to find another rental agency for the same amount sans the $2500.00 deposit.
I voted with my feet.
When enough of us do this, it benefits us all with lower rates.

Next time use Turo... Screw the car rental companies...

Exactly. And I love how the shoppers at InstaCart always take extra care in choosing our items. Never have to worry about overripe fruit, or anything like that.

See, people with your logic are part of the problem. Curbside is tippable? Really?

Yes, curbside is tipped.

They are packaging your order, making sure it is correct and then physically bringing it to your car. It is a convenience and you tip them for the service they are providing.

That was the standard even pre-Covid.

An insult? Definition does not fit. Irritating perhaps(if you're 'that guy'). So no tip for food to your door?
Delivery order up for slavathenontipper! Well known 'round these parts! Secret ingredient applied in route!
Which slice?... It's like pizza Russian roulette!🤣

Are you not able to shop at the grocery store in person? That would solve your food ordering and tipping concerns.
