Wonderful news. Overbooking needs to stop. If someone is purchasing a ticket on standby, airlines should make that clear up-front.

I like the idea of offering discounted fares for "first bumped" status. If bumped you get the next flight, even if they have to bump a "first bump" on that flight. That way you can make contingency plans from the beginning.

Later flight with a class upgrade and a voucher for another ticket. I passed on another offer that was actually better but I couldn't wait.

$600.00 and business class on the next flight. That was much higher than usual but Air Canada was getting desperate because no one was volunteering. Also got a food voucher

There are marketing and pricing strategies to deal with that, they just haven't wanted to use them.
