First of all, I don’t know much about IWB. But I think it’s Israeli.

Something’s Up: American And Russian Leaders Are Suddenly Pulled Into Emergency Meetings As War Rumors Escalate

Vladimir Putin today called an urgent meeting with defence chiefs hours after 14 sailors died in a mystery submarine blast.

The Russian leader cancelled his schedule for a meeting with his defence minister Sergei Shoigu.
If the story about “a mystery submarine blast” is accurate, then this sudden gathering makes sense. Here is more about this incident from Time Magazine…

In the body of this piece is a theory that torpedoes were exchanged, according to a theory by DEBKA, an Israeli publication. All of our enemies have made it clear these undersea cables will be attacked. It is possible the Russian sub was practicing, and we A - engaged, or B - a low lethality device was triggered by tampering with the cable, and the Russian sub got unlucky or had its air lock open.

I doubt as civilians we will ever know what really happened.

"War rumors escalate"

Haha

Another Conspiracy Theory level thread.

When I see the tagline "Spreading the truth. Empowering the people.", I generally assume they are doing neither. And I decided to look at some of their other articles, to see if they were worth anything.

And that is just some of the over 2 pages of updates for 5 July alone. No, this "blog" is about as valid a source for news content as David Wolf is for science and health content. And no, that web site is not Israeli. It is in fact American, and appears to be on the fringe of far-right Libertarian viewpoints.

Out of curiosity, this is what a factcheck source says about them:

Notes: Investment Watch Blog does publish real news, however they also publish conspiracy news and some scientifically questionable articles. This source is not that bad, but a fact check is advised when reading their information. This source tends to have a right wing bias.

Naw, I think the Weekly World News is likely more reputable.

That appears to be questionable and perhaps dangerous advice.

Well, to be fair to the OP, investment is pretty close to bank. ;)

Russian submarines themselves have killed more Russian sailors than any Russian enemy post WW II.

Kursk went down in the same area in 2000 with all 128 submariners. Putin's been beefing up his armed forces yet in 2016 a Russian military plane carrying 92 people, including dozens of Red Army Choir singers, crashed into the Black Sea en route to Syria where Russian forces are deployed. Everyone on board was killed.

The fire in the sub's battery storage area erupted Monday and killed 7 senior captains among the 14 who were toasted and roasted, apparently instantly (see below). Russia reported it Tuesday, according to reports. Yet Trump and Pence are cancelling schedules today and meeting as if something happened yesterday or overnight. So these developments seem unconnected.

Retired Colonel Viktor Baranets, a columnist for the pro-Kremlin Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper has been channeling the many grim details the Defense Ministry is supposedly not yet reporting. One such detail is that the heat from the fire melted firefighting masks and that the fire "spread like a hurricane."

Russia admits top-secret submarine hit by fatal fire WAS nuclear-powered - Maosoo3h

As far as the evidence points out it was a top secret nuclear sub experiment gone wrong not any wild conspiracy theories, russia kept quiet but being the ,sub was top secret they likely wanted to contain the evidence before any other state actor could scoop it up before coming clean.

This is not their first sub failure, the environment their subs operate in is a deathtrap for subs as it is, add to that being an experimental sub the odds of failure skyrocket.

According to credible Russian sources, she is the AS-12/AS-31 (SPS Losharik), a nuclear powered mini-sub that can accommodate 25. It is operated by the Main Directorate of Deep-Sea Research (GUGI) and reports to the GRU.

The Losharik is nominally based at the Russian Navy’s Northern Fleet Olenya Guba base on the Kola Peninsula and is usually attached to a modified Delta III submarine for the journey to its operating area.

Her missions are top secret, but it is strongly suspected that the Losharik maps and taps-into underwater fiber optic comm/data cables among other things.

Interestingly, each of the 14 dead identified by the Kremlin are officers with at least the rank of Captain. The survivors were also all officers plus 1 civilian.

7 - 1st-rank captains, including two with Hero of Russia awards
3 - 2nd-rank captains
2 - 3rd-rank captains
1 - captain-lieutenant
1 - lieutenant-colonel

Thats an awful lot of brass on a submarine. We load our submarines with that much brass for any reason at all? I cant see a reason to do that. Why would there be 7 captains on a submarine? Those boys in the picture by the looks of the salad bars, look like they have been there and got the T-Shirt, more than a few times. Definitely something weird was or is going on.

Brass doesn't rust. Tarnishes easily enough, but a bit of polish and elbow grease..... all shiny and new looking.

Yup. Whatever they were doing, it was far above conscripted pay grade.

Well, it is not the US Navy, the ranks are not the same.

The 1 Captain Lieutenant is roughly the same as a US O-2, Navy Lieutenant Junior Grade - Army First Lieutenant.
The 2 Third Rank Captains are roughly equivalent to the US O-3, Navy Lieutenant - Army Captain.
The 3 Second Rank Captains are roughly equivalent to the US O-4, Navy Lieutenant Commander - Army Major.
The 7 First Rank Captains are roughly equivalent to the US O-5, Navy Commander - Army Lieutenant Colonel.

The 1 Lieutenant Colonel Is unusual, because while all of the other ranks were purely Russian Navy ranks, that one is of the Russian Navy Ground Forces (roughly equivalent to the Marine Corps). And his rank when converted is roughly that of Navy Lieutenant Commander - Marine Major.

So while that is a rank heavy group, it is not as rank heavy as it first appears to be.

The causes of the death of a special Russian submarine of the "Losharik" type have become known.

Most likely, the cause of the tragedy of Russian submarine was an explosion of the battery in the battery compartment. The team of submarine tried to cope with the smoke (which means fire) in the battery compartment of the vessel. The crew used all possible regular means to cope with the fire. But they did not know the cause of the fire. The cause was the malfunction of the one of the accumulator battery, which subsequently exploded.

Remarkably, as usual in the Russian submarine were used the Ukrainian zinc-silver accumulative battery but after beginning the war between the countries Russia started use the Russian produced lithium-ion battery which have subsequently caused the deadly explosion.

Of course it does not! Rust is what happens when Iron oxidizes and corrodes.

However, brass still corrodes. In fact, in salt water galvanic action will literally eat it away to nothing (which is why zincs are used to prevent that). And brass used in salt water has a very high zinc content when compared to more typical brass not used in a marine environment.

There are times when thinking literally are not applicable. A requirement for a sense of humor.

Couple friends of my old man opened a nautical-theme pub a few years back. They bought some ship's telegraphs from a naval mothball yard that were painted grey and found nice brass under the grey paint. Only the military would order something made of brass and then paint it.

Cutaway of the "Losharik" AGS (AS-12/AS-31). The bathyspheres within the thick hull allow her to dive deeper. The area between the bathyspheres and the hull is filled with a highly compressed material.

The nuclear reactor (sphere #6) is of the E-7 design. The Lithium-ion batteries were produced by the Saint Petersburg company Rigel (Ригель).

You haven't met my wife. :)

My studio is in part of an old glass factory I redeveloped years ago as a small shopping center, a few blocks from our home. One small room, windowless, I used for storage is completely enclosed with English glass. Not from England, but frosted with a process invented in England. The glass is a beautiful dark cerulean blue. I don't know why it was built. My wife saw it and decided to clean out the detritus accumulated over 25 years and turn it into her design studio. She wanted to paint the glass a bright yellow. I gave her a larger room with windows, which I never used, plenty of natural light, upstairs. She's happy, painted the walls yellow, and I have an empty blue glass enclosed room that is now clean and not yellow. The room has terrible acoustics, but maybe one day I'll figure out a use for it.
