Bullying is a big problem in many of America's public schools. To end bullying I would have a cadet force similar to CAP or JROTC in every school to act as knights in shining armor to riding to the rescue to stop bullying. To ensure the cadets would not become bullies themselves they would be raised from childhood to learn a code of chivalry. As you can tell Ender's Game influenced my idea. Ender's Game is still my favorite book and it influenced my decision to join the Sea Cadets and JROTC.

Just have parents and schools teach kids there's a repercussion for bad behavior, instead of spoiling them rotten.

What I would do is allow the kids to defend themselves without being in trouble for it. What a bully really needs, and what he understands best, is that he is not the biggest baddest ass on the block, but it needs to come from one of his peers, not someone who is already in a position of authority.

How would you stop it online on social media sites?

Shut the computer off or just not go to those sites. Simple really. Even a caveman can do it.

Do you really think that's a good solution? If girls A and B are talking about girl Y on facebook and girl Y shuts off her computer, do you think that's the end of it?

Yes for the girl y. Who cares what the other girls a & b are talking about. Besides talking trash about somebody is not bullying, just rude. Last I checked there are plenty of rude people in the world, and girl y needs to learn to deal. Not everybody gets to be in the "in" crowd.

Teach your kids to fight. Being a pansy is the first way to get bullied.

A child being taught to defend themselves is important, however being taught to walk away is more important.

Stupid idea. Some kids are going to be rotten little bastards regardless of what you tell them to act like. And many kids can't be trusted with extra authority. Period. Also, what do you mean by "riding to the rescue"? Do you suggest we teach them to beat up bullies? To handcuff them? To rat them out to teachers?

The idea sound like something a child would come up with after watching a superman movie.

Girls A and B also have parents, hypothetically. They can turn off the computer as well. In my home, my children's Internet access was closely monitored and they knew if they abused the privilege, or any privilege for that matter, they would lose it. The only way to curb bad behavior is to make the consequence of said behavior outweigh the "benefits."

You remember the part where Ender killed the little pipsqueak that was bullying him? The code doesn't prevent bullies at all.

You may be a younger poster, I presume. So I'll adjust on that assumption of mine.

It sounds like what you want in place is a buddy system. Some areas try to do this for at-risk student populations. It's a good idea to aid with multiple problems in the school life of a student, but it it's not necessarily going to be a "solution," per se.

A lot of staff have the tendency to reinforce the bully's perspective. Some think they need to toughen up and more or less tell youth this. Other times they have this strange sense of kumbaya, where they expect the youth being bullied to immediately "shake hands" (or whichever) with the kid/kids that just physically or verbally bullied them. They may also punish other students standing up for the youth being bullied. All of these things sends the message that bullies are a protected group of students in the school and it is wrong to try to change that.

Adults need to treat this like they would the workplace. While there is some level of desire to have the employee develop independence, what managers also do is not tolerate a work atmosphere that is both counterproductive, and a hostile work environment. Far too often it is the adults who more or less consider school to be the Roman gladiator match, while they themselves would never put up with that level of disrespect from one of their peers. There's no reason to have kids become what you yourself would not.

That's a good start but I feel like too many parents don't care like you or I do. They are more interested in their own facebook then their childs.

Therein lies the rub. If it isn't bullying, it's something else. You do your part to prevent it, but it's going to exist despite our best efforts. Bullying isn't a recent phenomenon and it's not going away. So the best we can do is teach our kids some common sense. Avoid the bullies when possible. When it isn't possible try and do what the rules say to do. And if that doesn't work, rip the bullies nuts off and feed them to him. (Hyperbole alert)

But seriously, my son knew that if was forced into a corner and he had to kick a bully's ass, he might get in trouble at school, but he would not get in trouble at home. I also told him that the "permanent record" B.S. is just that, so don't worry about that either.

You want to militarize schools?

Don't we have enough problems with the police being militarized? That hasn't gone well and I don't expect this idea to go well.

and get hit from behind. Its a sign of weakness to walk away.

That's a very narrow view. Not everything is worth fighting for. If somebody calls me a dumb, balding, fatass, goat raper, it's simply not worth the consequences for me to prove him wrong. I couldn't possibly care less what some limp dick asshole with something to prove thinks or says about me. That, my friend, is a sign of strength.

That is how it starts, then its the pushing and shoving. If you let it happen and walk away. It will continue to happen. Bullying is incremental.
Let that first thing slide, it will get worse. Show that you are ready to throw down, it will end.

Oh, so do nothing and just "take it" is the solution.

If you think this was a binary approach, you are indeed approving of immaturity.
