In Michigan, the Republican-controlled legislature succeeded in passing a new "right-to-work" law, which weakens unions' ability to negotiate and has serious negative implications for all workers in the state. They had no public meetings, no debate, no time for review, and had Republican staffers sit in seats in the gallery to block citizens from even being in the room to hear about it.So this guy decided to say something about that.

So... No public meetings on this bill, no debates on this bill, didnt even have a change to review this bill, brought it Republican staffers to sit in seats in the gallery to block citizens from even getting a chance to be in the room to hear about the bill.. And they are just gonna shove it down the people of Michigans throats.. No wonder so many people are pissed about this pill. No transparency what so-ever. Is there were democracy is going?
great speech.

What a shameful display by Michigans congress. Thank god at least one man has the cajones to point out the injustice in the system.

Except so many aren't "pissed about this pill". According to all the polling the folks of the state are onboard with RTW. So, not arguing for the people, but against their wishes on the state house floor.

Re: A Politician Loses It On The State House Floor, Says What All Of Us Are Thinking(

Bully for him! Screw Wilson. He's just one more partisan gravy trainer. All the likes of him, Kasich, Walker and the rest of these "right to work for dime store wage" zealots are trying to do is cripple the unions because they're the biggest donor to the Democratic party. Hey, they've been trying to destroy the middle class for decades now and now they're trying to seal the deal. Well, here in Ohio, when Kasich tried to "Obama" right to work thorugh, we (voters) shoved it up his ass sideways. Yea, that's right, "Obama" style is OK for these people, but when Obama did the same thing with health care, out come socialisms and all other "isms."

Re: A Politician Loses It On The State House Floor, Says What All Of Us Are Thinking(

How dare people want "a right to work"?

I live in a RTW state and it seems that most people join the union anyway. Its been so for the 38 years I've lived here.

If someone wants to educate me on why RTW is a bad thing, I will listen and learn.

The right to work law gives workers the ability to choose to either to be in the union, or not be in the union. Workers will not be forced to pay the unions for the privilege of working.

Why is it that the same party that yells Pro-Choice is against employees having a choice when it comes to union membership.

As long as someone is working under union rules and getting the benefits of union representation they should be required to pay the dues. If they want to go it on their own, fine.
This law will not stand, the Republicans that passed it will be out on their ears in 2014.

That's the point - it's got NOTHING to do with workers, employment or any such thing. It's all about wounding, if not killing, the Democrat's biggest donors - labor unions. I'm lukewarm toward unions and could really care less about them. On the other hand, I AM against cowardly, morally bankrupt politicians who do stuff like this and lie about it (and worse, some people are stupid enough to believe them). Additionally, I do think a secondary goal of this is to continue to wound the middle class. Anything to keep people like us who might, just might, rise in class status away from them.

Right, because forcing people to pay dues to an organization (so that they can have a job) that they may not support ideologically is fair, and forbidding them to work unless they join a specific political organization is fair. Allowing them not to give up the money they earned is freeloading, but taking their money and giving it to those that don't work is fair.

Welcome to upside-down world.

Since Unions are altruistic benefactors of the American worker, why are they afraid of giving up their govt sanctioned extortion? Shouldn't they be confidant that the average worker will see their benevolence and want to join of their own volition?

The Unions can still do all the fundraising they want. What they can't do, now, is tell people who want a job but don't necessarily want the "representation" offered by the union that they have to contribute to the cause.

How do you feel about people being forced to be a part of an organization, and contribute financially to it, in order to be able to work? Say, like the Catholic Church?

Everyone's croaking about "my money going to what I don't support ideologically," blah blah. Well, what about our taxes? I'm sure the lion's share of the tax money sundry government agencies pull from our paychecks are going to foolishness we support. Yet we continue to allow it to happen. What's the diff, and don't tell me it's because you go to jail if you don't pay them.

Where did you EVER get the idea that I'm OK with how my tax dollars are being spent?

I didn't ask you directly - just looking for someone to chime in and try to differentiate between union thug extortion and government confiscation of our property. Why don't the people rise up and support and stop that? And don't anyone tell me that the Tea Party is doing that, either.

The difference is: if you want a job, you have to be one of us.

Well, among other things, I'm not paying taxes so that I get my own lobbyist in DC. I'm paying taxes because of those special interest lobbyists in DC.

Right. Fancy extortion supported by law. Abuse, in other words. Unions were formed to fight and prevent worker abuse, with some success to one degree or another. I think we need a union of American people fed up with legal larceny. And I use the term "legal" very loosely................

No, I like the idea, but not the reality it became - just one more bunch of sell-outs and "half-wayers." Sheettttt..... "NO more taxes, but damnit, keep MY social security and medicare and medicaid and prescription play comin' in!" The hell is that?

That's not exactly what the message was but it is what various special interest groups wanted people to think. There was a broad generalization in the media as well as "alternate news sources" that painted the opposition to Obamacare as preservation of Medicare in it's current state. The reality was decidedly different.

What's the reality then, aside from Grover Norquist's "Contract on Gridlock?"
