I say "little" because I expect it to be ignored and lonely. :( Does anyone else enjoy baroque? Have a favorite instrument? I've been on an oboe/Albinoni kick for the last few years.

Baroque isn't exactly my style, but Beethoven, Prokofiev and Vivaldi I like. Of course Vivaldi is baroque, but most baroque isn't my thing.

I really like a lot of Stravinsky. Tchaikovsky's good, too.

I love Albinoni's adagio in G minor. I swear, I believe it was the downfall of my last marriage.

My kid is a classical music buff, and can tell you just about anything that you can imagine about classical music, but he typically listens to electronica when it is with friends. He has little interest in rock/country or what most people consider "pop".

I suspect that the classical music interest comes from a few years when he was in elementary school when I frequently played classical music. thinking back, around that same time I also played a lot of late 70's early '80's type of technofunk (midnite star, etc), which may have formed his interest in electronica.

These days I will often listen to NPR when I am alone driving. They play a really large variety of music ranging from classical to bluegrass to jazz, which gives me a break from the local pop station that we usually play at work. I think what I like best about NPR is that they discuss the music, and the artists/composers, so instead of just listening, I am learning.

Since my kid's primary instrument is trumpet, I would have to claim it to be my favorite, even though he also plays violin, piano, clarinet, guitar, etc. Before he completes his music degree with a specialty in music education, he will have to have learned to play virtually all orchistral instruments, including percussion. Bassoon is next on his list, but I am concerned that he may run out of time before he has time to really study all instruments that he may eventually have to teach. It's rediculous that music ed programs expect students to become profecient in a instrument with just one semester of study, and that they are expected to learn something like 15 instruments in just 7 semesters of study, plus composition, arranging, instrumental conducting and vocal conducting (the last semester is just student teaching).

My older daughter developed a love for classical music when she was a child because of my love for it. I wish my two younger did the same. They just roll their eyes when I listen to it on my ipod.

Think I'm going to enjoy this thread.

I can picture that eye rolling. Seen it many times. I bet that just pisses you off, then you pretend to ignore it.

Broke my classical music cherry on this work about 35 years ago.

Not a huge fan of Mahler but this piece is exquisite.

I'm actually not 'into' classical per se, but when I discovered David Garrett playing Who Wants to Live Forever, I started listening to this -

Vivaldi's Summer:

I love most classical music, but prefer anything in minor keys. They are usually dark and depressing, like me. ;)

I generally go for major keys and allegro and presto too.

The one Albinoni piece I can't listen to is that adagio because it just breaks my heart. Ironically, it's the only one by which most people know this marvelous composer. Here's the other beautiful piece of music I can't listen to for the same reason. I just know you'll love it, Superfly. (Sorry about the cheesy graphics; I hate folks putting their waterfall and clouds and flowers graphics to music!!)

Here is Chopin's Ballade No. 4:

Speaking of depressing...this one reeks of despair.

And of course, a masterpiece that one can never stop listening to.

Love that. I can never tire of listening to Mozart. The man was a genius.

My classical cherry was popped by Mozart, too. I knew I liked it, but didn't know where to start, and none of my family and friends liked it. I went into a bookstore one day and didn't know where to start, so I just looked in a $3 bin of classical music cassettes, and picked the first Mozart in minor key that I could find. It still, to this day, remains one of my favorites. Got lucky!

I love Summer and Winter of his Four Seasons.

Not a fan of Spring and Fall. Too light and happy.
