Well, I don't dislike Trump. Perhaps unlike most people I understand him. He's a New Yorker.
I spent a significant part of my life growing up and residing in New York City. New Yorker's have a special way of looking at the world.
There are what; ten million people crammed into the space of three islands (Staten Island, Long Island, and Manhattan) and a short peninsula (The Bronx)? While other cities can claim some diversity, New York City finds people of all nationalities, races, creeds, etc. living within a few feet of each other in the same cramped buildings. Every day they encounter and deal with foreign languages, different customs, ideas, attitudes, etc., and they have a certain way of looking at the world that is clearly represented by Trump.
To a New Yorker every person and every situation encountered is considered an opportunity to advance themselves in some way, large or small. Life there is a never ending struggle to climb a little higher in competition with millions of other competitors. They mold their speech and actions to achieve whatever opportunity may ensue. There is no organized prejudice; every enclave like a Chinatown, Little Italy, or Harlem, is surrounded by zones packed to the gills with whoever can afford to live there. Yeah there are gangs, but seldom based on race. Every kid who lives on the block is a member of the party. As long as you are tough enough, you're good to go. You have to be tough and adaptable to deal with so many differences on a day to day basis. It isn't race or religion that sets the tone, it's money because you need a lot of it to live there.
Trump's not a fascist, communist, socialist, or a racist. Nope, he's from NYC which makes him an opportunist. It's an inherent trait of the city. That's not a bad thing BTW, because I still consider myself a New Yorker. That's why when I see excepts of his speeches I just smile to myself because he reminds me of the majority of people I used to know when I lived in NYC. He's just saying what he thinks the crowd would like to hear at that moment in time, because he's trying to sell himself to that crowd at that time...
