Latest studies of scientific papers show that 99.9% of scientists believe that humans are causing climate change, the same level of belief amongst scientists as evolution and tectonic plate movement. The figure is an increase from 97% the last time the study was carried out in 2013.

This is case closed and I hope the mods move future climate change denier threads to the conspiracy forum from now on.

I am shocked that the more than 400% increase in world population in the last 100 years has had some serious environmental impacts.

That people continue to deny the urgent need for action, even with evidence so overwhelming that the fossil fuel companies have to publicly support the Pairs Accord. Shows of effective and destructive decades of propaganda from the fossil fuel companies have been.

There the fossil fuel companies even with the overwhelming evidence still tries to delay the necessary transition away from fossil fuels.

The question is not IF humans are causing climate change, but rather how much climate change?

Even my gutter contractor is warning me to schedule my gutters (cleaning) later in the year, as the trees are 'turning' later & later each year.

I don't want to get into the weeds of cause & effect, but it is clear my local area is in a sustained warmup recently.

There is little doubt that the average temperature has increased over the last century.
Plants grow where they did not used to, and away from micro-climates, that only happens if the climate changes.

Exactly. I think it's fair to debate the causes and extent of human involvement. But it should be obvious we are in a warming cycle.

From denial to poking holes is how it usually goes.

I have said before, plants are horrible liars!

It's settled and decided. At this point, denialism is nothing more than an angry, fact-free religion.

Declaring victory on a point not in contention, is not really a victory!

Again, I'm surprised it isn't 100%.

That isn't what you think. The study gives a range of 98.8% to 99.87% as agreeing with the cnsensus. But the consensus is nothing more than believing we have an unspecified effect.

consider this from the study:

Quote Game dismissed in favor of science. 👋

Suit yourself.

I want to pause here and talk about this notion of consensus, and the rise of what has been called consensus science. I regard consensus science as an extremely pernicious development that ought to be stopped cold in its tracks. Historically, the claim of consensus has been the first refuge of scoundrels; it is a way to avoid debate by claiming that the matter is already settled. Whenever you hear the consensus of scientists agrees on something or other, reach for your wallet, because you're being had.

Let's be clear: the work of science has nothing whatever to do with consensus. Consensus is the business of politics. Science, on the contrary, requires only one investigator who happens to be right, which means that he or she has results that are verifiable by reference to the real world. In science consensus is irrelevant. What is relevant is reproducible results. The greatest scientists in history are great precisely because they broke with the consensus.

There is no such thing as consensus science. If it's consensus, it isn't science. If it's science, it isn't consensus. Period. --Michael Crichton

Fossil fuel companies have known about the need for action on climate change for a very long time.

While at the same time delayed action on climate change by spending massive amount of money on propaganda.

What the oil companies have known is that the demanded energy needs could not be satisfied with the existing alternative energy technologies as they were!

How were the papers chosen?

The sampling is legitimate, the statements made by the guardian are a complete about the study is complete hyperbole

That is also a propaganda lie from the fossil fuel companies.

"Political leaders have long cited economic research on how taking action on climate change would be prohibitively expensive. President Donald Trump even used the findings as part of his reasoning to withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement.

But who exactly is behind that economic research? Legal expert, physicist, and now science historian Benjamin Franta, of Stanford University, decided to take a deeper look. He recently published his findings in the journal Environmental Politics: Since the late 1980s, economists at private consulting firms, funded by the fossil fuel industry, have played a key role in shaping public discourse about climate policy in the U.S., hawking flawed research and spreading disinformation everywhere from newspapers to congressional testimonies. In an interview with Grist, Franta discusses economists’ role in the fossil fuel industry’s PR campaign, and why these relationships flew under the radar for such a long time.

“For decades, [these] economists have been inflating the cost of action,” Franta said, “and downplaying the cost of inaction.” "

That you have so many positive examples from around the world that shows that at a transition away from fossil fuels is possible.

There the transition away from fossil fuels could have happened a lot sooner if it wasn't for the massive PR, marketing and lobbying campaigns from the fossil fuel companies to delay the transition.
