90 Days Until Shutdown

A good battlefield commander doesnt surrender when the going gets tough. He digs in and fights to the last man. See Battle of the Bulge.

Yes, but that would be the Germans playing the part of a Republican Shut down. It was the Germans who initiated the battle of the budge, much like it would be the Republicans initiating another shutdown. I think you could expect the same results, a disastrous defeat that basically left Germany defenseless and could very well leave the GOP much the same. In tatters. But it is your guys call.

If I were the commander, I would be regrouping my forces today. Surveying different places and battlefields that would give me an advantage. I let what is going on now play out to see who is the stronger in the future. IMO the time hasn't come to commit all my forces on another Picket's charge. Perhaps after November of next year your forces will have doubled to include both chambers of congress. your hand strengthen, but one never knows.

Well like any Commander would know.....currently the enemy is reeling and their defenses are being over run. So while the tactical advantage is in play. We secure the bridgehead and jumping off points. Hu-aaah.

Also.....I would haven't held up at Bastogne and I would have secured the Fuel depot and made it to the Coast. Good thing I am American.

No, the tea party is surrounded. It just needs to hold out until reinforcements arrive in the form of common sense. #torturedmetaphor

Perhaps, but I would equate shutting down the government more akin to an offensive action since it will be the tea party/republicans initiating it.

Technically it was a passive action. The law expired, and they didnt renew it. That makes it defensive.

With the Holiday break coming up, is anything going to get done? Are we going to have Christmas filled with doom and gloom from the Fed? Layoffs and government spending freezes for the new year? They aren't doing anything. What a joke.

All those morons that shut down the gov't and keep claiming that they did the right thing are going to do the same thing again. Obamacare will start working good just about the time these begin their escapades. Should make for an interesting election year.

The ACA won't be done rolling out for a couple of years with the employer mandate coming up. This will be a 100% cluster F.

3 weeks till shutdown. Just because they pass a bill with spending caps, doesnt mean theyve authorized any actual spending beyond Jan 15. Or borrowing.

I was totally unaware. I thought we were at self inflicted crisis averted.

Nope, unless they pass an omnibus spending bill, another CR, or individual agency spending bills, there is no discretionary funding after Jan 15. But have no fear, they can still spend 2 trillion or so on mandatory programs. There is no stopping those trains.

2 weeks till shutdown. Congress has still not passed a single spending bill other than Defense since the last shutdown, and everyone is off on vacation.

One week left till shutdown. Interns are apparently working in secret to come up with something all the campaign donors will support. Democrats are preparing their blame the Republicans talking points tour.

Appropriations committee staff worked through the Christmas and New Year holidays to prepare a bill that could pass both the House and Senate before funding runs out again on January 15 and made "a lot of progress," said Vincent Morris, a spokesman for Senate Appropriations Committee chairwoman Barbara Mikulski, a Democrat.

"We definitely hope to arrive at an agreement this week," Morris added.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said on Sunday he was "afraid" that House Republicans would derail the spending bill.

6 days till shutdown. Lobbyists are hard at work getting their pork!

Lobbyists and advocacy groups are working furiously to make their mark on an upcoming $1 trillion spending bill.

K Street sees the omnibus measure as a rare opportunity to shape legislation destined to reach President Obama’s desk that touches practically every part of American life.

“It is a must-pass legislative vehicle that could become a post-holiday Christmas tree for items policymakers and lobbyists have been trying to achieve with no luck for years,” said Mike Fulton, president of the Arnold Agency’s Washington office.

The House has only 95 scheduled working days left until the elections, beginning today.
They have already effectively shut down for 2014 .

The House will vote next week on a three-day stopgap spending bill to prevent a new government shutdown and buy time to finish a $1 trillion omnibus.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said the House would vote early next week on the continuing resolution under a suspension of House rules, which would require it to be approved by a two-thirds vote.

House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said he would urge his members to back it.

“I will support it on suspension, I urge my colleagues to support it on suspension,” Hoyer said.
House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.) said negotiators are aiming to introduce a giant $1 trillion omnibus spending bill on Sunday or Monday.

But Congress will have to approve the stopgap measure first to avoid a shutdown, since Congress won’t have time to consider and pass the omnibus to meet a Jan. 15 deadline.

The stopgap measure would simply extend current spending, which is based on a $987 billion annual budget for discretionary spending. It would run through Saturday, Jan. 18.

Called it. Govt can not get a single thing done on time. I say shut it down until they can. Even if they pass something, itll be an omnibus bill, not a bill for individual depts which have been through committee review, debated on the floor, and laid out priorities. Itll be lobbyists written pork, same as the last 4 years.

And we will be above 17 trillion in debt by then
And liberals will call that a victory

Meanwhile the repubs threatened to not pay our debts before which lowered our credit rating and the conservatives called that a victory.

It was set up that way.

sense... you're not making it.

Founders, have you read any of them?

Check out Federalist 58. "The House of Representatives cannot only refuse, but they alone can propose, the supplies requisite for the support of government."

And that makes absolutely no point to the original one being made. They had a choice they made it. This has nothing to do with structure.
