Yeah, what's next, preventing Muslims from building a place of worship they can call their own?
Hey wait a minute.
Is there a law that prevents Muslims from building a mosque? Sure there are angry people trying to blame 9-11 on all Muslims and trying to prevent them building a mosque near ground zero. But this is not the same thing as banning where a mosque can be built. They can still build a mosque near ground zero.
Except when some of that "trying to prevent" stuff is done by trying to go through government channels for a ban.
Really, though, the key issue is that religious freedom has to work on a personal level too. Supporting "religious freedom" while trying to prevent a mosque from being built is a bit hypocritical. This happens a lot in this country.
Not surprised.
This is France we are talking about.
Well excited to see if they elect racists into Government
If France had only thought ahead, they could have only colonised Non Muslim countries...
Race is not the question here ...

And what stopped the bigots from preventing the mosque being built? American law, that's what. Can't say the same for Europe, though.

your criticism doesn't really make any sense. People trying to pass some law doesn't presuppose that the law will be seen as constitutional by the courts, nor is it evidence that we, as a country, don't respect religious freedom.
Also, due to free speech, they're well within their rights to advocate such, and the rest of us are free to ignore them
Sharia is banned or is trying to be banned in some US states. You might have a technical freedom of religion on paper, but the citizens of especially "red" states could care less when it comes to Muslims it seems.
Eh? There are no laws banning the building of mosques in Europe. In Switzerland right wing wackos got minarets banned, but that does not ban mosques. And Switzerland aint all of Europe.
And as for the protest.. well if these people had got the required legal permissions to hold a gathering for such a large crowd, something that is required in pretty much every single major city and country on the planet, then they would not have been arrested.
You clearly have not been catching up with French politics.
There is a chance the National Front will get many seats.
Race isn't the question ... lol. Just lol.
This is just a attempt to get votes by pandering to the masses who are irrational and paranoid
Race is not the question here, it is the French culture and the idea of "Liberté, égalité, fraternité". Wearing coverings over the head while in public doesn't promote any of those ideals or values. Islam, as a pre-medieval religion, can learn a great deal from the French if it truly wants to carry out some reformations.
If not, perhaps it is unwise for Muslims to emigrate to France.

That is an unbelievably western centric view.
The belief that we in the west are somehow superior i think is a fallacy in itself.

What measurements are you using in the superior stakes? How do you believe any Muslim run country is superior?
If you traveled at all you would have seen that many countries have their own traditions, laws and cultures. France is no different in this regard than Argentina, Japan or Saudi Arabia. When you move to anther country you are often expected to follow these laws and traditions, as difficult a concept as that might seem to be for someone who have never left their home town.
Depends on your definition of superior, some muslim countries are fu ked up by historicalal reasons, other muslim countries...
Well...
I'll let you be the judge.
As you were the one who brought up the subject of superiority why not expand on that idea and comment further?
Or not...
Since you're incredibly western centric and seem to want to be american more then Canadian...
So why don't you go do that?
Don't know what you're driving at here or what it has to do with the topic under discussion.
