55 years post Woodstock

It is 55 years today since Woodstock was taking place.

Watching the movie again, the contrast between kids today and kids back then was startlingly

I am very serious, where and why we go off tracks?
Life was not nearly as cushy as today and there was not way way more going on.

There was a very big divide between the boomers and the great generation but kids, the boomers respected the great generation.

Today, the word respect is lost post boomers. Maybe because they never had to go to war as the boomers did?

Honestly, what has gone wrong with our youth?
Nothing that hasn't been 'wrong' with youth since the beginning of time.
"“Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company; gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.”
Attributed to Socrates.

I wish I had a theory for that one.

All I can think of is that with the memory of the recent war, they saw it best to get the kids out on their own as soon as possible to get them out in the real world.
Also we could afford it. My buddy & I rented a 2nd & 3rd floor of a ramshackle house for $30 a month, got a ‘56 Chevy for $35. Good solid transportation.

A lot of the great generation had to work at a very young age because of the depression.
The old human knee jerk reaction. I took care of myself when i was young so should you.

Also kids wanted to get away from the structure of living with the parents. & you could afford to live on your own with a steady job.

Lol

This post has no clue.
This the first time i ever heard it called an anti war concert.
That is pretty impressive, to able to argue about Woodstock, and not have any understanding of the counter-culture of 1969.

Have you ever watched the concert?

You could only afford to live on your own IF you lived with friends. Not on your own.

Are you talking to me?
You can't be. Just cant be.

From this you took the event as an antiwar protest?
Lol

Lot's of performers were Vietnam vets. Did you know or care?

Did you know or care there were Vietnam veterans opposed to the war?
Many events donate part of the receipts to a worthy cause.

BTW who made these anti war speeches?
In 55 years 8 have never across a one.

I looked at the acts and appearances in order several of appearances. The blessing and prayer were listed with time stamp as was every act. Nothing about any speeches. Btw, why did you answer my post? I was simply calling him out fallacy.
This has nothing to do with fallacy. Do you know what a logical fallacy is?

You've been given the information showing your claims were off base. Accept it or not. That your response is "Nuh-uh" shows your choice.

So you haven't and you don't know anything about the counter-culture of 1969.

That it explains it.

How old are you?

You can't be seeious?

You have not read the thread.

I watch the movie every year on the anniversary. That is what birthed this thread.
I watch the 4 hour director cut now.
I go to the site on its major anniversaries or when i need solace like after my cancer diagnosis. Funny thing, i met a guy at the monument 5 years ago who also had cancer and also is what prompted him to be there.
On they 20th anaversity i was interviewed for Japanese TV at the monument.
My audio guy did the sound for Woodstock (not to mention for the Concert for Bangladesh and groups like Led Zeppelin when then they were in NY.

I know more about 69 than you could ever know.

Pete Townsend stopped Abbie Hoffman from making a political speech with a whack from his guitar. Anti war was yugely on our minds but Woodstock was for us & not an anti war rally. That could restart on Monday after a nice long hot bath & some sleep.😇🤠🎼🎹🎸🥁🪘🪕🎻

but Woodstock was for us & not an anti war rally.
I said it was an anti-war concert.

Hint:

"3 Days of Peace and Music"

PS....Pete had his coffee spiked with acid and hated playing the show, he did not agree with the promoters ideas and it was just a bad scene for him and the band.

I have a poster in my home.

My audio guy has stacks of tickets.
He has a giant walk in safe. More good memories. Thanks.

I do see why you are confused. It say peace and you took that out of context.

It was about arts and crafts as well as music. That would have been a correct ansewer.

The word peace refers to the feeling from the 1967 summer of love.

Woodstock was not a antiwar protest in anyway. It was put together to make money. Money is no made having a protest. This was not a not for profit event.

Its ok to be wrong sometimes. Take the high road now and bow out.

Peace

Security stopped he and Grace Wing 😉 from gaining entry to the White House. Abbie was carrying a bag of acid to dump in the punch.

So tell me about Joan's song about the arrested protester. Tell me about Country Joe and the Fish's "what are we fighting for"?

What's next, are you going to argue that Hendrix's Star Spangle was an attempt at patriotism? A recruitment scheme?

You want to put it as a backstop to a flower power San Francisco "happening" two years prior, whereas in that passage of time we had the Tet Offensive and the burning of cities driven by a reaction to racism/discrimination/unequal draft.

Won't take the high road i see.

Oh well.

Serious question, do you really believe 2 songs that were performed over 3 full days means the event was an anti war protest.

Where did you get the idea it was a anti was rally?
Why are and you alone of this belief?
I have never heard this before.

By the way, the young couple on the cover of the original album had no idea either.

They got married shortly after thar and stayed together till her death just a year or two ago. Very nice people.

One of my 1st antiwar protests was Vietnam Veterans against the War event. A couple friends were active in that group.
I don’t know who was a Vietnam Veteran among the players at Woodstock, I do know Jon Fogerty was a vet but not ‘nam. 🧨🔥🧽💣🪶⚡💥

"Joe Hill" is about a union organizer, but she did preface it with remarks about her husband, who was an imprisoned draft evader.

I'll guarantee their presence in the audience.

The word, my argument was, anti-war CONCERT.

The two of you can't even get that simple part correct in the space of a few minutes, and yet I have to sit here and read about your "remembrances" from 55 years ago.

I remember what 1969 was like, I know what the mood of the country was, especially the counter-culture. I was part of the counter-culture of the 70's and 80's, I know what was happening then and in the 60's. This idea that it was simply a concert is so absurd, but there you are.
