2019 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament

Virginia winning cemented my bracket's status this year as the worst I've ever filled out. They were the one-seed I had bowing out the earliest. Memories of UMBC, I guess.

That's quite a turnaround. Their defense and rebounding came up enormous when they needed it to.

I had all of my Final Four teams alive in the Elite Eight, and all four lost in the Elite Eight (Duke, Gonzaga, Kentucky, Purdue)

My bracket disaster was last year. This year 99th percentile.

Only started doing a bracket about 4 years ago. My first year I was kicking butt like nobodies business and had the champ. From that point I've only slid into the trenches, but still managed to survive into the 8's or 4's. And this year? My bracket was busted by the second day. And I mean it got slapped, kicked, stomped on and smothered horribly which zeroed me even having a reason to watch. I did watch tonight though and it sounds like Virginia had a rough trip to the championship, so Congratulations and will keep an eye out for ya'll next year.

Wow, Virginia going from the first ever defeat of a #1 to a #16 one year, and national champions the next year, is quite the accomplishment!
Everybody who called Virginia tournament chokers is eating crow tonight.
Way to go, ACC!
Congratulations, Virginia!
My Duke got bumped out in the Elite 8, but at least we had the consolation of having been the only team to beat the champions twice (and we did win the ACC title).
This was a good tournament, with plenty of close games.
Unfortunately, maybe it was the last great one, given the change in NBA eligibility rules, which threatens to destroy the quality of college basketball.

I've been doing brackets for 30 years. This is by far my worst one. I don't watch as much college hoops as I did when I was 17, which might explain some of that, but I think the tournament is much more upset heavy than it used to be and I just haven't come around.

All in all this was a great March Madness.
I started out pulling for Gonzaga.
When Gonzaga lost I then put my hopes on Purdue.
When Purdue lost I put my hopes on Michigan State.
When Michigan State lost I put my hopes on Texas Tech.

Good grief, did I pick right. But you can't watch any sporting event without aligning yourself with one of the teams.

Even in boxing. You might watch a fight between two boxers you have never heard of but you have to pick one you favor. You just can't watch a sporting event and be completely neutral, or at least I can't.

I didn't watch one minute of any game. I'm kind of proud of that.

I was listening to WFAN 660 in NYC yesterday. (Sport talk)

A guy calls in, mad as hell that the refs gave the ball to Virginia at the end. The play where the Virginia defender swiped at the ball and hit it away from Tech. Replay shows it last touched the Tech play's finger. You know the play right at the end.

The caller was insistent that the Virginia player caused the ball to go out of bounds even if it hit the Tech player so it should have been Tech's ball. His rational was that before instant reply the ball goes to Tech because no one would have know it was off them.

Fans are crazy. The radio guy just hung up on him. It was too funny.

Replay solves some problems and creates others.

Well, there really is nothing quite like arguing with a guy who does not understand the rules.

He had an answer for that!

He claimed he knew it was "technically" the rule. He said that the "spirit of the rule" was not being honored! (because it was the actions of the Virginia player that set the ball in motion by batting it away.)

Honest, it made me think of this forum where it is so obvious that folks believe what they want to believe not what is fact. Same with religion. People do it in all aspects of their lives. We all do to varying degrees.

True. You can take the replay to the 9th degree but then basketball games become 4 hour events.

I saw the replay too and at first I thought definitely Virginia touched the ball last. But having multiple cameras on that play it clearly showed the backside of the Texas player's finger glide across it. At least it looked like it glided against the ball although it didn't change the direction of the ball.

I think Jack Hayes said it best

It looks like Bobby Hurley is the leading candidate for the St John's opening.

I played organized basketball through college and to this day I think most calls are nearly random.

Soooooooooo hard to be a ref in BB. IMHO

Your analysis?

Some on the Fan (radio) was saying St John's should hire Rick Pitino!

Too funny. Yeah, Mike hung up on him too. lol

It's no longer the glory days of the Big East. Too many other large animals are now grazing in the St. Johns pasture. At ASU there's a chance to build an attractive program in a setting many players might find appealing.

Bad move if he goes.

I don't know. He's a good coach and he's from the neighborhood IIRC.

I read somewhere today that the St John's AD hates Pitino.
