2014 NFL Pick'em Game!

4:05 pm Denver Broncos Oakland Raiders Its gona be a blowout win. Really.

You may be right - one of these days Oakland will put 4 good quarters together and actually win a game - they almost came all the way back against Seattle last weekend, in Seattle, with a good second half. It's a let-down, "sandwich" type game for Denver and inter-division games are often really close. If Denver had any injuries to speak of, I would have taken Oakland as one of my underdogs, but they're pretty healthy and probably will bounce back with a big win - Manning feasts on these type games.

I don't want to be critical of your new system as you experiment with it going forward, but I have to say I find your power rankings puzzling. As an example, not sure how much faith I'd put in any system that has the New York Jets ranked higher than anyone, but particularly higher than the St. Louis Rams, who've managed to beat both Seattle and San Francisco in the past couple of weeks.

Yeah, I'm still working out the kinks.

The Jets have a higher ranked offense and defense than the Rams, cumulative season, if not a better record.

I'm not sure whether power is a measure of the entire season or the last five games or what.

I would prefer to work this out on MS SQL Server Express 2014 .. if I could ever get it to run!

I figure one of these days when they put together 4 quarters of football I will get my one hell of an upset special, and then Katie bar the door every game after that first win is gona be cast iron bitch for their opponents. I liked that they have been close now just to close the deal. I think they got a chance against Peyton, granted Oakland aint New England but they can steal a couple concepts to good effect. Its a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong shot but I think they can get the upset of the year here, especially if they get an initial lead.

I took some risks too. I can't get to the top of the board without taking them, but I can get to the bottom easy enough either way, so...

Bengals
Falcons(I'm not sure if I should root for them to win, or root for a good draft pick.)
Cowboys
Chiefs
Dolphins
Steelers
49ers
Ravens
Broncos
Seahawks
Cardinals
Packers
Panthers

Your Falcons annihilated the Bucs a few weeks back, scoring 51 points on them on a Thursday night I think. If they lose this weekend, that probably means they're tanking to get rid of coaching staff/GM, etc.

I'm suffering Zyphlin recap withdrawal here - I need to know the details of this week's pics and if I have a chance of making up any ground!!!

My picks:

Bengals
Falcons
Cowboys
Chiefs
Lions
Steelers
Saints
Ravens
Broncos
Seahawks
Cardinals
Packers
Panthers

So, this week metrics....

- There are four unanimous winners this week: Bengals, Steelers, Cardinals, and Packers
- There are five games with one player picking against the majority: Jags, Niners, Titans, Raiders, and Giants
- Only one game is a near 50/50 split, the Eagles (6) vs the Panthers (5)

Two players picked with the majority on every game, Penn and TopCat

This week we have a three way tie for the most upset picks. CanadaJohn is there again, along with PoS and Your Star. They all have 3 upsets picked.

The biggest gamble in terms of upset picks this week however belongs to mk1. He's only chosen two upset picks, but he's the lone player picking the Raiders and the Giants. No other player has two upset picks that are going against every other person.

Seven of the 11 people who have put in votes thus far this week have at least 2 upset picks.

Interesting note, our current (tied for the) leader has not put his votes in yet (DA60).

Looking at the four remaining players inside the top 5.....

Three of them (TC, gdg, and myself) have one upset pick chosen while Humbolt has two upset picks.

TC and Humbolt both picked the Bills as an upset pick.

gdg, humbolt, and myself all picked the panthers as an upset pick.

Given that most of the top 5 scorer's are sharing the few upset picks they've selected with other people in the top 5, there's unlikely to be a lot of movement within the top this week.

The best chance is Dogtowner to make a push to get back into the top 5 out of his current #6 spot. He has two upset picks, but ones no one in the top 5 has chosen (Bucs, Dolphins). If he can generate two points either from his upset picks, or by the upset picks by those in the top 5 being wrong, he can catapult himself back into the top 5.

Ignore my post #438 - I spoke too soon!!

Glad someone is at least finding them interesting :)

For whatever reason I really like that kind of thing. Trying to take raw numbers and looking for trends, looking for oddities, seeing how they may interact, etc. Figured it'd be a fun little thing to make it a bit more lively than just everyone giving picks.

What would sports be without a blowhard giving analysis ;)

If DA posts soon I'll pop his data in and update the previous post.

I very much appreciate it, so don't stop.

Oh, the coaching staff, and probably the GM as well, are gone after this year. Not much is going to change that.

One thing I noticed - only Your Star and I have picked the Dolphins.

Doh!

Strike that, I missed a page of picks...5 picked the 'fish' (who are mammals).

They are technically mammals, but morally fish.

Well, everyone is 0-1 to start the weekend.

Cleveland won 24-3 over Cincinnati.

Well, at least we are in it together.

Lol
