I think we're gonna see the third tier players follow Pawlenty's lead and start dropping out between now and 01Oct11.

Highest on the list for me are:

Santorum
Gingrich
Huntsman

None of these three are doing anything. Gingrich, for all his "smarts" runs a lousy campaign and has to mostly keep his mouth shut. Santorum is a good guy that no one takes seriously and Hunstman is stuck in "John who?" land.

By the time 2012 rolls around I think it will boil down to:

Perry, Bachman and Romney fighting it out.

Cain and Paul will hang on as long as they can, but I don' see either gaining the traction to keep moving much past 01Jan12

Palin is the one who can be a game changer. If she jumps in with both feet and really wants it - her campaign will change everything.

Lot's of things could change the race, I'm going by what is, not what isn't atm.

Obama could face, and lost a primary challenge from the left, he coudl decide to decline to seek a second term... tht could change everything too.

Perry, Bachman and Romney fighting it out.

Bachman won't cut it. She's not electable. It will be Romney vs Perry with Perry taking the win

Why? Romneycare and the AGW horse**** ties Romney's hands and cannot go ape**** on Obama. Romney cannot challenge Obama in a health care policy debate. He knows that

Perry can hit Obama with everything he has. Perry will be relentless on both issues (health care and jobs)

I have no faith in America if Palin or Bachmann get the nomination. I'm all for a woman president, but not them.

Actually, if Romney's smart he COULD challenge Obama on health care.

10th amendment, state's rights argument vs. nationalization and usurping Constitutional limits, etc., etc.

If Palin or Bachman get the nomination, then the Democrats will win the election.

I hope the GOP is smarter than that. I want to see the best possible candidates running on both sides so that our country has the highest chance of electing the most appropriate and most effective President. We don't need celebrity, partisan hack candidates at this time who clearly don't know enough about governance.

I hope you are correct. Romney is a much stronger candidate than Perry in the General Election. I think Romney gives Obama a strong run for his money. Obama trounces Perry in a general election.

BTW....I don't think Huntsman is a real candidate for 2012. I believe that he knows that Obama is likely to be re-elected against the current lot and is positioning himself for a run in 2016. He doesn't have the name power to be a strong candidate this time around, however, he will stay in for a while in order to get known better for a future run.

Although I like Huntsman, because he won't be hated by liberals. I don't think he can ever win the republican nomination. Not now, not in 2016. He is considered too much of a moderate and he is also disliked by the ones who know him. It's not just about name power.
