Agree or disagree...?

1.Socialists believe in the use of force to gain their personal ends. Whether it's light bulbs or alternative energy or public schools or national health care, in the end there's always a gun at your head to get you to conform. If a man holds you up in the street, does it matter if he wants the money for drugs or to bail out someone's mortgage? It's still a gun, and it's still armed robbery.

2.Socialists believe in slavery. Their concept is not the slavery of an individual owning another individual, but of a state owning the output of the individual. We are now forced to work four months out of the year for the federal government before we see a dime of our own income, and it's getting worse. Our new administrtion has just indebted every family an additional $11,000 without our permission or approval. This is economic slavery. (If you don't believe me, watch what happens if you don't pay your taxes. See No. 1 above.)

3.Socialists are racists. The content of the character doesn't matter; it's all about the color of the skin. Read the e-mail I received in response to last week's column, in which the writer somehow made the extraordinary leap in logic from my premise of government fiscal irresponsibility to William Byrd whipping slaves three centuries ago. Yes, Byrd was a nasty man. But what on earth did that have to do with the topic of my column? This illustrates that socialists will always bring up the subject of race, regardless of the prevailing drift of the conversation.
Most people tend to look at the content of peoples' character rather than the color of their skin. If someone is honest, hardworking and decent, then who cares what he looks like? But if they're angry, abusive and violent … then sorry, the content of their character is demonstrating that they're not people to associate with, regardless of skin color. Conservatives – true conservatives – really don't give a diddly darn about someone's melanin content. As columnist Burt Prelutsky put it, "… most white Americans don't spend a lot of time dwelling on anyone's race. They're much too busy trying to make a living and raise their kids."

4.Socialists believe the worst in everyone. They believe that we are all racists, therefore racism must be shoved in our faces constantly. They believe we are stingy, so we must have our money forcibly removed and redistributed to others. They believe we are heartless and that the only source of compassion is the government, so compassion becomes government-mandated.

5.Socialists think religion, especially Christianity, is stupid and nothing but a prop for the unwashed masses. Why else would they forbid expressions of faith anywhere except (grudgingly) within the walls of a church? Religious people are seen as uneducated, primitive, bitterly-clinging troglodytes.

6.Socialists believe in an ignorant society. How else can we explain their slavish devotion to a public school system that is so dumbed down that students can't read their own diplomas? Socialists know an ignorant society is good. Useful idiots are more amenable to dominance than citizens who have read and understood the documents of the Founding Fathers.

7.Socialists believe you have no right of self-defense. They don't even want you to talk about it in a school assignment. They pretend to have utter faith that government agents can protect you from any and all harm. In reality, it's the government agents that are among our biggest threats. What socialists are really concerned about is your ability to defend yourself against them.

8.Socialists are intolerant. If you have a dissenting opinion, you are mocked and ridiculed for having the temerity to disagree. Socialists do not believe in freedom of speech or they wouldn't be concerned about Rush Limbaugh or what ministers say from the pulpit.

9.Socialists are hypocrites. They expect the unwashed masses to conform to their ideals while they, the lofty and elite, are exempt. How else can you explain Al Gore's energy-sucking mansion? How else can they claim conservative talk radio or Internet news is too powerful when socialists dominate the newspaper and television media?

10.Above all, socialists are in denial. No matter how much you point out the obvious – that the government is fulfilling the dictionary definition of socialism – they flat deny it. If you point out the horrors of socialized medicine, for example, a socialist will say "But this time it will be different." Socialists are unconcerned that the government holds 40 percent of Citibank and over 80 percent of AIG. Nancy Pelosi assures us that government takeovers of banks should be "transitional" but not permanent, and Steny Hoyer hesitates "to use the word nationalization." You'll notice they don't deny it's a government takeover. They merely refuse to call a duck a duck. Quack quack.

Sibby Online: Socialist traits

I think propaganda is bad.

11. Socialists know how to see through strawman lists about socialists.

No I'm not a socialist, but that blog is too dumbed down for anyone to take seriously. You could just swap "socialist" with "conservative" or anything else, and all of the points would be just as true (or false depending on your point of view).

I think the 10 points are totally wrong, in fact they are so wrong that I don't even feel the need to explain why.

Look up Socialism in Webster's and let me know what you come up with. :bringit

Socialists think that there are inequalities in the society and that these inequalitie should be fought by state interventions.

That has nothing to do with racism, intolerance, stupid people or violence.

In spite of what some Americans say, I don't think that Obama is a socialist, and there are no socialist parties in the USA.

There is a socialist party in my country, and I can tell you that they are much more left-wing than Obama, and that they do not share any similarity with any of your 10 points.

I don't have time to address it point by point.
It's brainless propaganda that sounds written by a sixth grade special-ed kid for a social studies assignment.

I looked up the source for the 10 point rant. The author is Patrice Lewis, and she calls herself "a practical constitutional Libertarian stay-at-home gun-toting homeschooling cow-milking rural-living Christian mom" from Idaho.

I smell a hoax. The immature sophistry in her 10 points is so nutty, it's both ironic and funny. For example, her conclusion that "socialists are racists" comes from one email from a black person (apparently) who read another rant of hers, "Washington socialists need to be spanked", took offense, and wrote:

"They are not Socialist. But it got me thinking. Who else REALLY needs (or needed) a good spanking? Hmmmm?

For starters, John Wayne. He was a mere celluloid "hero", not the real deal. He made no diligent effort to fight in WWII. My father enlisted, fought bravely and returned home to a segregated U.S.A. where spoiled White males like John Wayne whined that our brave leaders, like Martin Luther King, were "bellyaching". Excuse me?"

Admittedly the emailer does ramble on for several more paragraphs about the sins of slavery, and is obssessed with the legacy of racism, but how does that make him socialist? She never makes the proper connection. Her starting premise is presumptive, and then on top of that, she reasons from the particular to the universal, - both basic logical fallacies. I can't imagine it being serious. Her rant is either intended a joke or is the schizophrenic reduction of a paranoid delusion.

so·cial·ism  /ˈsoʊʃəˌlɪzəm/[soh-shuh-liz-uhm] –noun
a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.

Wait, wouldn't that include the military? What? The US Constitution requires a socialised institution as a fundamental expression of its existence? My goodness, Ms. Lewis must be warned our Founding Fathers had socialist tendencies.

Someone should pass that memo to Pat Buchanan.

Religion is to conservatives, like Race is to Liberals. Both groups shove it in your face and when you dare criticize either one, the said groups go full retard.

No. Patriotism is to conservatives as race is to liberals. Doing something/saying bad is unpatriotic if you ask a conservative, if you ask a liberal, its racist. :P

Broadbrush much?

wow, in that, you could change socialist to conservative, fascist, monarchist, guinea pig or pasta and it would still make as much sense

False. Violence is not part of Socialist theory. Some branches of Socialism embrace the idea that a violent overthrow of the controlling classes is necessary but that violence is un-necessary once the revolution occurs.

See No. 1 above.)
This is also false, Socialism advances the very opposite of slavery. This paragraph is complaining about our own government, which is a Republic, not a Socialistic system.

3.Socialists are racists
This is so incredibly wrong it warrants no further response.

Again, false. We believe that we have a system that enforces and encourages bad behavior for personal gain. Socialism as a system believes that the vast majority of people are actually good people and can live and work together if they arent having a predatory mindset grafted onto them.

5.Socialists think religion, especially Christianity, is stupid and nothing but a prop for the unwashed masses.
False, sort of. Some Socialists do feel that religion is a tool that has been used to the disadvantage of the workers in days past and they are entirely right. However many other Socialists (myself included) see religion as having a great deal of positive potential for many people. There are also large groups of Christian Socialists.

Yet again, blatantly false. The first thing a Socialist strives to do is to educate. Education gives people the tools to fight back against our current system.

I'm sensing a trend, false again. Many Socialists believe you dont have the right to kill over property, but I know of no branch of Socialism that believes you dont have the right of self-defense.

8.Socialists are intolerant. If you have a dissenting opinion, you are mocked and ridiculed for having the temerity to disagree. Socialists do not believe in freedom of speech or they wouldn't be concerned about Rush Limbaugh or what ministers say from the pulpit.
False. Socialists are extremely fond of the freedom to speak however we understand that the freedom to speak also means you have the freedom to respond to someone you dislike.

What...the...****? This doesnt even make sense....

10.Above all, socialists are in denial. No matter how much you point out the obvious – that the government is fulfilling the dictionary definition of socialism – they flat deny it. If you point out the horrors of socialized medicine, for example, a socialist will say "But this time it will be different." You'll notice they don't deny it's a government takeover. They merely refuse to call a duck a duck. Quack quack.
We deny the TINA (There Is No Alternative) mentality that many have about our current state of affairs, but I would hardly say Socialists are in denial.

Overall, this was a piss-poor article written by someone who knows less than nothing about what Socialism actually is, displays marked paranoia, and has no actual information other than essentially ranting.

D- See me after class

Look up Socialism in Webster's and let me know what you come up with. :bringit

You asked for opinions and THIS is all you can come up with. If you agree with what you posted, how about defending it... if you can.

Any departure from the status quo can involve force if one side refuses to yield.

See No. 1 above.)

We do not live in a socialist nation. Marx felt that the working class were enslaved and exploited by the capitalists. Whoever controls the means of production can "enslave" those who do not, whether it be government, capitalists, or a mixture of both.

One socialist inapproriately bringing up race does not make all socialists racist any more than you inappropriately bringing up race (as you are here) makes all conservatives racist.

4.Socialists believe the worst in everyone[...] They believe we are stingy, so we must have our money forcibly removed and redistributed to others. They believe we are heartless and that the only source of compassion is the government, so compassion becomes government-mandated.

There is no inherent value judgement against mankind in advocating for socialism. It is simply a fact that charity will not eliminate relative poverty, or even absolute poverty. Many people are okay with the existence of relative poverty to motivate people to work harder, but many socialists are not okay with relative poverty.

Marx called religion the opiate of the masses because it had been used to placate the lower classes by holding an imaginary carrot at the end of their toil. While there is certainly a historical correlation between socialism and atheism, there is no reason that atheism must accompany socialism.

Socialists do not believe that the public school system is inherently inferior as you do, so your charge is incorrect.

You should try to genuinely understand the other side. The philosophy of socialism has nothing to do with whether or not regular citizens can legally utilize guns. Liberals (but not me) tend to believe that more guns in anybody's hands lead to more violence. This has nothing to do with ensuring that the citizens are powerless against the government. Liberals and socialists tend to trust government more than you do. They're not thinking of making the citizens defenseless against the government, they're thinking of how they don't want to worry about whether that jerk in traffic is going to shoot them or not. (For the record, I do support right-to-carry, but I know why other liberals oppose gun rights, unlike yourself).

8.Socialists are intolerant. If you have a dissenting opinion, you are mocked and ridiculed for having the temerity to disagree. Socialists do not believe in freedom of speech or they wouldn't be concerned about Rush Limbaugh or what ministers say from the pulpit.

This is not specific to socialists.

Al Gore is not a socialist. Socialists do not dominate the media. Socialism is not the same thing as progressive liberalism. There are hypocrites in all political philosophies.

10.Above all, socialists are in denial. No matter how much you point out the obvious – that the government is fulfilling the dictionary definition of socialism – they flat deny it.

The government does not own the means of production in America. Rather, corporations own the government.

If you point out the horrors of socialized medicine, for example, a socialist will say "But this time it will be different."

The fact of the matter is that there are no more horrors in socialized medicine than in capitalistic medicine. Rationing occurs in both systems. People die preventable deaths in both systems. Anecdotes do not prove anything about which system is superior.

Socialists are unconcerned that the government holds 40 percent of Citibank and over 80 percent of AIG. Nancy Pelosi assures us that government takeovers of banks should be "transitional" but not permanent, and Steny Hoyer hesitates "to use the word nationalization." Wow we're not purely capitalist? We never were.

very nice of you top respond so politely to such complete drivel.

Lodi. Go buy a book. It's called "the rise and fall of communism" it discusses the roots, meanings and outcomes of socialism and communism. When you are actually educated on the subject then come back and see us :)

Let's hope this thread is a joke. Because the alternative means that Lodi is really stupid and fails to realize that his list makes many conservatives socialists.
