I was disgusted by the deliberate attempt by Bennie Thompson to tie Jan 6 to slavery, to the Civil war, the KKK, the war of 1812. Purely a political ploy to try to heighten the "script" prepared by a Hollywood producer.
I'm watching and listening closely and if what Cheney claim are true. It sounds that they knew a riot/possible insurrection was coming. Then please tell me why there was no attempt to protect the Captial with more troops, more proper arms,, and better fencing? Sure got to wonder why if they knew this was possible, why none of this was done by the capital police, the capital majority leaders, the DC police, the mayor.
Cheney stresses her position and admonishes her republican colleagues. She really needs to switch parties. Her script is a propaganda ploy. If you have the evidence present it and move on. This isn't going to bring the nation together, it will further divide it.

The Capitol Police ARE PREPARED to carry old ladies on sit-down strike out to buses waiting to take them for arraignment. THAT IS IT. Oh and they can provide directions.

Anybody that expected the Capitol Police to defend that space against any concerted physical effort is just kidding themselves. Their only option would have been to have drawn and fired not once but at large and at will in which case we would have had either a massacre of Insurrectionists or a massacre of Police as the Insurrectionists would have brought out their waiting arms. Very likely there would have been a massacre on both sides.
