The first all-Black climbing group to reach the summit of Mount Everest was recovering back at the bottom of the mountain on Thursday and celebrating a journey to the “top of the world”.

Seven members of the US-led team made it to the top of the mountain in one expedition, greatly increasing the number of Black people who have summited the world’s highest peak from 10 to 17, out of about 10,000 in total.

Manoah Ainuu, a professional climber from Spokane, Washington, was among the group and said he exceeded his high expectations in getting to the summit of Everest for the first time.

Pretty cool. Everest is definitely a challenging climb, so I’m glad to see they made it to the summit.

It looks like waiting in line at Disney land

That's actually pretty cool. Good for them. I'm glad they all made it safely.

There are only a few days a year that the weather subsides enough for climbers to make a summit attempt. Since the routes to the top are few, it’s easy for a queue to form, especially if there are less experienced climbers negotiating the more difficult parts.

Why is this 'making history'? Would it be equally historical if seven Icelanders made it to the top? Or seven Latin Americans? This 'news story' is, imo, text book racist.

Before this summit there has been only 10 black people who had climbed Everest. If a group of Icelanderarians made the ascent, I’d celebrate that too.

Why?

Why not? If they put together a group and make the climb, that’s an incredible achievement. Climbing Everest isn’t like going for a walk in the woods.

While it is definitely a personal accomplishment, it is not a notable human accomplishment at this point. Many have made the climb, to include people who did it when they didn't have oxygen tanks and other advanced equipment and such. So then we have to look at what the real reason it's being commented on, and that is because you're viewing people from different groups as different instead of getting by divisive antiquated POVs.
