‘Professor told he’s not safe on campus after college protests’ at Evergreen State College

The Washington Times (Bradford Richardson) reports that part of the hostility toward Weinstein also seems to stem from his objection to a “Day of Absence” “in which white people were invited to leave campus for a day”; see also Heat Street (Lukas Mikelionis). Here is Weinstein’s email objecting to the proposed day-long ejection of whites, as reproduced by Heat Street:

Do you agree with the professor, or the students? Blatant racism or woke social justice? Your thoughts.

I agree with the professor, obviously.

What those students are doing is blatant racism, IMHO. The professors' not the one advocating for an entire race of people to get off the campus grounds.

That college is cray-cray.

I read the linked article carefully, but was unable to define exactly what the Day of Absence addresses or what changes it supports. I think something has been left out of the story, but I am not sure what. I did not detect rascism. More info should be forthcoming on the "evaluations" because that issue wasn't clarified.

I predict taking college classes online will continue to increase in popularity. :)

I cut my teeth on the mean streets of academia, marching those hallowed halls in search of knowledge. On some front, University must remain a place that encourages intellectual dissent and debate. But it seems more and more that those are not sought after by these kids. They believe themselves on a righteous crusade, and I find it unfortunate that there are faculty whom would coddle and encourage this behavior. It is OK to protest and dissent, but if all they're doing is shouting down the opposition, then (as it said in the article) there is no movement for debate and only through debate can we really come to an understanding.

The professor was not wrong, but he also engaged a group of people who were reveling in ape-behavior. Taking over the library, shouting demands, but in the end very incoherent and no ability to control their movement or move forward to any form of solution. It's best to ignore these folk, and barricading themselves in the library and giving out demands...well I guess it's the decision of the "college", but that sort of behavior I find unacceptable in the student body. You cannot take over the public buildings, and you cannot close yourself off to intellectual discourse and debate.

But another part of me thinks that A) These kids have far too little homework, what the hell are they doing? B) University and College has become too inclusive. I believe that now that it is thought of as a necessity everyone goes, but no one really has a plan and now its treated as nothing more than some extension of high-school. Higher education is important, and I do think it should be available to all and affordable to all; but that doesn't make it a guarantee. It's academic scholarship and the pursuit of knowledge. You meet the high academic requirements or move along. You maintain those high academic requirements, or you move along. It's that simple.

They actually do have homework and projects to do, but they are trying to get out of it, as one of the demands of this mob, was for them to be let out of doing homework and projects while they were protesting, so their grades wouldn't be affected.

Big eye roll from me. Political participation is fantastic, and if you want to participate in marches and protests, then go right ahead. But don't expect that the world must kowtow to your choices in life. There are consequences to decisions taken, and if you want to protest, you may have to drop some days of partying in order to ensure your homework and projects are completed. This is part of University as well, one must take responsibility for their actions and the repercussions of them.

Wrongs have a way of writing themselves:

"Mizzou shuts down more dorms as enrollment continues to drop drastically"

Mizzou shuts down more dorms as enrollment continues to drop drastically – TheBlaze

It seems that "Resist" doesn't get butts in the pews.

Keep in mind that ESC is a liberal wet-dream of a school. It has THREE grad. programs: Master of Environmental Studies, Master of Public Administration and Master in Teaching. No grades, no classes. It's a pure liberal arts college in the worst possible way. Basically ESC is a magnet for every ultra-leftist kid who wants to "experience" college and not get an education. Just look at it's fields of study and you'll see very little in the way of any hard sciences and lot so of feel good crapola that's only applicable if you decide to become a liberal activist.

All people at Evergreen College are needed by planets, therefore the violence at Evergreen College needs to end

A day of absense is a day that whitey is encouraged to stay home so all the people of color can experience a campus without white privilege for the day.

The students can choose to enroll in his classes or not. In the meantime they need to get a life.

ESC is a cesspool. It was when I lived in Olympia in the 90's and it remains so to this day. When they legalized weed in Washington state the students at ESC didn't even notice.

What do you do with a degree from ESC? You get multiple nose rings and you pour coffee for a living.
