We've had to "borrow" the money to pay for farm subsidies for decades.
When we have to borrow the money that is being "invested", then I consider that a waste. Furthermore, considering the fact that these so-called alternative forms of energy aren't economically viable, any investment in them by the government is, in my mind, a waste of taxpayer's money.
But, bottom line...I think private businesses who want to develop alternative forms of energy should seek investment from private sources...not the government. If such development is considered useful or viable, then the private investment will be there. If the private money isn't there, then private investors consider such development a waste of their money. The government would be wise to emulate those private investors instead of wasting taxpayer's money.
