I came face to face with a child carrying a bomb. If I were to have tackled him he could have blown up and killed me and innocent bystanders.
So my choice was to shoot him to prevent him from walking into a crowd to detonate himself or tell him to stop hoping he would listen.
Things happened quickly. I did what I thought was right.
Not too long after that journalists came up to me as did grieving spectators asking why the hell I did I do what I did?
I struggled to say, " I made a mistake, I am not perfect".
A fellow comrade then standing behind me at the bloody aftermath said," Why the **** do you apologize they can not hear a damn thing you say..?"
I responded, " ..I guess so..."
The comrade then said: " It sure as hell don't matter now.."
I responded, " Yah I know I should have shot him dead and not give him a chance to detonate the bomb.."
My comrade then said. "No one cares. This land is full of martyred dead men look around."
Epilogue
Some other soldiers walked up and said "you too?" then we walked over to a bus stop and sat down...one of the soldiers said...a bus will come get us..there's always a bus.
