There are no black mambas (or snakes at all) in the mountain village. At ~2000m, the nights are too cold for snakes. Threre are chameleons of several varities, including horned; sometimes hawks/raptors slam into a tree canopy and carry them off, birds of prey also take chickens (even big ones) on occasion. There are many birds because the village is ~2km from the Natl. Forest, which has monkeys and other exotic creatures (including rare snakes like the green mamba). No elephant herds bumped into the village this year The black mambas are at a place near Nairobi (~1300m) where the nights are more reasonable (by Miami standards).
The ants are not so dangerous. Just make a line with kerosene and they turn back. They don't go marching around that often and they don't move fast. If they get in a house, it's just a hassle.
