  • There are no black mambas (or snakes at all) in the mountain village. At ~2000m, the nights are too cold for snakes. Threre are chameleons of several varities, including horned; sometimes hawks/raptors slam into a tree canopy and carry them off, birds of prey also take chickens (even big ones) on occasion. There are many birds because the village is ~2km from the Natl. Forest, which has monkeys and other exotic creatures (including rare snakes like the green mamba). No elephant herds bumped into the village this year :( The black mambas are at a place near Nairobi (~1300m) where the nights are more reasonable (by Miami standards).

    The ants are not so dangerous. Just make a line with kerosene and they turn back. They don't go marching around that often and they don't move fast. If they get in a house, it's just a hassle.
    Wow, those pictures are really neat. I don't know how you manage with all that dangerous stuff around you, from black mambas to huge ants. o_O;;
    Girlfriend (see pic file names). Too young for me (27), but smart and knowledgable so we're ok for now. The (too) thin one is her friend (23). I need to finish this degree, teach for a while and buy land before I consider a wife. I finish research/leave Kenya in about a year to complete the degree, then I'll teach in the states for a bit.
    Look to the left column on this page... Albums/pics. I'll try to add more in the near future.

    Regarding my personal philosophy, I think I'll make a sig with links to DemPeaceTheory, Ecocentrism, Ecofeminism and Deep Ecology. See the Tavern, Members Pics Thread (2) for some pics and an explanation of my current work and plans. I was born in the USA. I grew up in Miami. I'm 40. I self label as a pro-life, green hawk libertarian. I've been vegan almost 15 years.
    I've been to Kenya in '03 (Masters thesis), '06 (independent research towards PhD/preliminary dissertation research), and I've been here a year now. I expect to be here another year conducting research for my dissertation. At the moment, I'm in a 'surburban' area where I have access to electricity and a cafeteria while I get the computer model up and running. I'll return to the rural village sometime next month, for several months. I plan to settle in Kenya for a few reasons, after I defend this dissertation and teach for some years in the states.
    So I was just wonderin bro, are you an American thats gone to Live in Kenya, or a Kenyan gone to live in America?
