I've always said, the simplest solution is to ban politics on Facebook and Twitter. Problem solved.

The only reason I keep an account is to have a back-up plan in case I need/want to get in touch with someone but old contact info is bad. Not likely, but just in case....

I don't feed those bastards anything other than where I went to high school (since at one time, I wanted those alerts about people who made accounts who went to the same one, in case I wanted to say "hey, what's going on?")
