Zohran Mamdani Stuns Andrew Cuomo In NYC Mayoral Primary

God I love how stupid and delusional our progressive liberal friends are. The certain failures of these policies will be highlighted nationally as well as the flight of the soon to be higher taxed affluent New Yorkers.

It's a gift we thank you for.
I agree this has the potential to be a political gift we might thank them for. Hopefully, it ends up being that gift rather than an indication of a new direction this country thinks makes any sense.

NYC isn't representative of anything that's going to sweep the nation. Plus Cuomo was such damaged goods that this was his Hail Mary to try to become relevant again. He's done for good now.

If you mean the message lacks national appeal, I wouldn't be so sure. Biden won in 2020 with a pretty progressive platform.

Don't forget the massive right-wing effort to repress the vote. You've got that going for you.

What the far-left voters of NYC represent is not representative of the rest of the country. Could they be compared to the voters of Portland? Sure. But aside from other densely populated urban hubs of far-left politics, it’s not really like any other subsection of the rest of the country.
You can't even articulate why cities are more liberal. This is sad. US cities are more liberal because cities require higher incomes, which requires more education, and most understand that liberalism is associated with higher levels of education.

If you want to argue that cities having higher educated individuals are more liberal, thats fine, but saying an east coast city population is fundamentally different from any other city, without any reason, is not much of an argument.

They certainly have filled that void and have been met with large approving crowds.
Those crowds included disenchanted Republicans who couldn't get their reps to hold town halls.

The left-Marxist, anti-Semitic, Hamas-loving Muslim guy received only 300.000 votes yesterday, in a city of 8 million with 6 million registered voters … yet people think he’s some new messiah for Democrats.

Lol.

😂

That’s only 5% of registered voters in a city that already votes 80% Democratic.

What he stands for (Marxism and piling up debt) is only a fringe minority opinion in the US and would go down in flames in 2028 in the presidential election if someone similarly crazy like AOC would run against Trump’s heirs.

In swing states, suburban and rural areas, such policies are D.O.A.

Oh Noes.... scary immigrants in a city that mostly immigrants.

Dems need pay attention to what this signals to them the next 4 yrs and tRump will turn a deeper shade of orange at the thought of a progressive becoming mayor of NY especially because he won't be able to pronounce Mamdani's name

This is great news for MAGA.
I am begging to think the Dems have also lost their minds.
This vote was a disaster for the party

Mamdani was most notably endorsed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), both democratic socialists who’ve ridden populist waves in recent years.

Mamdani’s campaign offered a relentless focus on pocket-book issues: He promised to freeze the rent for millions of rent-regulated tenants in the city, make city buses free, provide free child care, and establish a city-run grocery store in every borough,
He's promised to raise taxes, spend more money, and give things to folks. Sure that's attractive to the young and the poor but it's not affordable. He want's to do away with the NYPD, but he doesn't mind using off duty officers who are protecting him right now. He will be another in a long line of Mayors who's far, far left social agenda will further degrade NYC. Except that we all know the young do not make the best decisions, they think with their feelings and not with their brains.
Goodbye NYC. The decline will continue and only grow worse it this anti'-American does become Mayor. Mamdani's positions stated from his own mouth are, antisemitic, anti-police and anti-American. His major supporters are AOC and Bernie, two democratic Socialist. Really just old fashioned Socialist, but they can't say that out loud. (How do you think NYC can afford this?)
They'll come begging to the Federal Government for money.
NYC needs a strong on crime, manager who stops some of the wasteful spending.

This is a big win for progressives. Cuomo looked like the favorite, but his skeletons sunk him.

If this guy is elected, it will be an even bigger win for real estate brokers in Dallas and Miami. Their phones will be ringing off the hook. 😆

“Zohran the Magnificent”: “Give me a turban and a magic wand and I will transform New York City into Havana, where all the people have free flats and rats!” 😉😆

Dude... our current mayor is a crook on the level of getting bags of cash kind of crook.

Cuomo had to step down because of scandal after scandal one of them involving hiding how many dead people he was responsible for.

Calm down... Mamdani is a charasmatic guy with tepid progressive policies.

Unlike amongst the fake-christian right, it seems it's tough going as a Democrat sexual harasser. Meanwhile an orange rapist who only cares if his victim is breathing is treated as a godhead over there in the MAGA camp.

That said, this other guy has no executive experience whatsoever. He ran a good campaign, obviously, but that says nothing about leadership capabilities. NYC has got to be the toughest city to run in America. It's got a tremendous structural deficit.

He wants to freeze rent on already rent-stabilized apartments (....) and finance vast amounts of new housing with tax increases on businesses and the wealthy. Which....ok, esp. as to the wealthy, but the thing is that the smaller the area attempting to do such a thing, the harder it is. It's easier to move one's residence out of a city than a state, and easier out of a state than a country.

We'll see. But I don't have the highest of hopes.

Young people always like free things and free handouts and expect mommy and daddy to always finance their crap.

This is mostly what’s wrong today: people (especially young ones) don’t want to work anymore (or just parttime) and expect their nanny and helicopter parents to pay up for them, because they are entitled to it …

Sad development.

Young people need to get their lazy asses up and stop voting for the nanny Dems and chaotic antisemites and start getting to work 40-50 hours a week, financing their stuff on their own. Not get free stuff from the government.

my name is not ****in dude!

He want's to do away with the NYPD
Nah... that isn't his policy.

When was the last time NYC had a far left Mayor?

Since I have lived here it's been Guiliani, Bloomberg, DeBlasio and Adams.

None of those people are far left.

What!!!! He wants programs that serve the People and not the 1% Oligarchy! The bastard! Let's deport him.

The tax structure of the city is engineered to giving preference and handouts to rich people.

There are already handouts happening.

Shifting some of those handouts to poor and working class is not an extinction level event.

"The party establishment’s impulse to stifle and ignore some of its most exciting emerging voices isn’t limited to progressives. Take Chris Deluzio in Pennsylvania or Pat Ryan in New York. While decidedly more moderate than Mr. Mamdani, both congressmen campaigned last fall on bringing down costs for people in their swing districts and taking on huge corporations and billionaires, a strategy Mr. Ryan described as “patriotic populism.” Even though it won them both races, Washington Democrats have been hesitant to embrace that strategy. I saw similar complacency last year while advising Ruben Gallego’s successful Senate campaign in Arizona. Although Mr. Gallego was the only Democratic candidate in the race, we struggled to get buy-in early on from the Washington Democratic establishment. It saw his blunt-spoken style as too risky for Arizona. He went on to outperform Kamala Harris by eight points. If Democratic leaders don’t start asking themselves how these candidates won, and what they can learn from their success, we’ll be doomed to fail in the future.

...Since their losses last fall, Democrats have obsessed over how to reverse their declining fortunes. By and large, the consensus has been that we need candidates with a sharp economic argument that can connect with young people, men, voters of color and the working class. In the New York City mayoral race we got a candidate who checked many of those boxes: Mr. Mamdani. On Friday, starting around 7 p.m., Mr. Mamdani walked the length of Manhattan — about 13 miles. As he walked by, street vendors recognized him and shook his hand. Outdoor diners jumped up from their tables to tell him that he gave them hope, and young people waiting outside of bars screamed his name and took selfies with him. Some supporters joined in on the walk after they said hello. It reminded me of the “Forrest Gump” scene where he runs across America and slowly crowds join in behind him. Sounds like a candidate for the party to invest in, right? Instead, national Democrats — with the help of Trump donors — came together to try to stop him by funneling $25 million into a pro-Cuomo PAC.

...I’m not saying Democrats should try to run candidates exactly like Mr. Mamdani everywhere. That’s not going to work for a lot of reasons. But I am begging Democrats to embrace candidates who can authentically speak to the electorate they’re running to represent, whether they’re in red, blue, urban or rural areas. And we should not be so quick to squash exciting candidates just because they seem risky, look different or challenge the status quo. Sometimes we have to try new things. And when we do find candidates who resonate, we should welcome them into our tent — and try to figure out how they do it."

I'll say the quiet part out loud. Generally speaking, its less risky if the candidates are white and male.

The Democrat establishment is working for the donor class.

Until that changes they are going to continue to see losses.

One should go back in history and read newspapers from when the first Catholic or Irish or Italian or Jew man got elected ... Bet it sounds familiar to what is being said about this man...
