Should this be a feature? Its very distracting to see the same huge image (unplayed video) over and over.
 
Hopefully a slightly related bit of feedback doesn't need its own thread:

I have noticed a (slowly) increasing number of posters manually copy/pasting a signature into the bottom of their posts, nullifying the option of turning signatures off. Figured I'd put that on the radar for consideration.


I almost always have sigs turned off, and only temporarily used relatively short one myself (I think it was: "I take no responsibility" - Trump). But for the most part, it's a whole lot of extra clutter. And if a bunch of people end up doing the routine copy/paste thing to use signatures that cannot be ignored, it'll become obnoxious.
 
IMO, there are a few’ eyesore’ signatures?

I think there is an option in your preferences where you can hide things like avatars in posts. There might be something that allows to hide signatures also. I'd be careful about what you wish for. Someone might complain about signatures containing more than one poster quotes. ;)

Ditto. That type of thing should be discouraged.

We do have the option of turning them off. I do. I think what is being discussed is when posters copy/paste their sigs at the bottom of every post which can't be avoided unless you ignore the poster.
 
I see signatures are limited to 3 lines, which makes sense to avoid overwhelming the page with same person's signature.

Unfortunately, at least one poster is using a video in their signature which shows up huge on my screen and often their signature is not only much larger than actual content of their posts, but also consumes a lot of the page space in any thread that they are active on.

Should embedded media content be disallowed in signatures?

And/or is there a workaround so I can get rid or auto-minimize their signature?

Years ago signatures were short and to the point. I turned them off when they got out of hand. Videos, ha! I'll never have to see that.
 
Not wanting to 'necro' a thread, but this seemed to be the right place to put this suggestion as its related to signatures.
Admins: If this isn't the right place, do please feel free to move as is appropriate.

I'm aware there's a forum rule or limitation about how many lines / characters are permitted in a poster's signature. I'm perfectly fine with this.

However, some users have taken to put X / BlueSky posts and / or images into their signatures.
While these signatures do fall within the character limit of signatures, they certainly disrupt reading forum threads with the large amount of scrolling needed to get past them and on to following posts.

I'm not proposing that images or put X / BlueSky posts be banned from signatures, but might it be possible to encourage forum members who have such large signatures to trim them back a bit?

Especially annoying as it calls on a BlueSky post, which, when in the office, is blocked and a big ugly alert platted in the middle of the page.
Very annoying.
 
It is just another "rule" on this forum that is a farce.
You can't post too many memes! Oh no, can't do that!
But if you make a meme into a signature so it spams the thread every single post - that's okay! :rolleyes:
