So what does "sort of coerced them" mean? Either the government coerced them or they didn't. I do love the angle of bringing Europe's standards though, because the tech industry's itching for the US government to weaken the EU's Digital Services Law.

They're not. The EU's Digital Services Law is specific to how content is managed in the EU. US social media companies don't like it because they have to abide by two sets of standards and they don't want to be bothered. If people in the EU don't want certain types of speech, that's their right. These kind of laws aren't just about the EU because different European countries manage this locally as well.
