Which is unfortunate because I'm in the same boat. However, in Southern California, at least outside of San Diego and Los Angeles, it's pretty conservative. It's just the liberal asshats in Sacramento that screw it up for all of us.
Agreed. Pull the major population centers from California, and it's not a liberal state. With Los Angeles, San Diego to a degree, and off the chart with San Francisco, followed by Sacramento, it's a liberal/progressive or die state. That's why, IMO, it's in such desperate shape.

Basically if the entire state were like Bakersfield I'm sure CA would be much better
The republicans can win in Calif, they choose not to. And that's no ones fault but theirs
That's why we're always running in the red, because they're so busy putting in absurdly restrictive environmental laws, raising taxes, etc., most major companies are leaving California for more business friendly climates. The place is a disaster and instead of fixing things, they're passing laws against plastic grocery bags.
LOL.
Thanks for your informed opinion.

Well the proof is In the pudding. The RNC has abandoned california, they don't do effective advertising, and they're failing to run Latino and Asian candidates in districts where those groups are vital voting blocs. The few effective republican candidates, like Andy Vidak and Janet Nuyen won without any real support from the state party. Even in Washington state republicans control the legislature because of a good ground game and candidate slate. The CA GOP is content to sit in Irvine while they lose the rest of the state, I'm not a republican nor a Californian so I don't care much, you can dismiss yur problems as evil liberals if you wish
One thing I've noticed is I tend to see a lot of people from one political party or another that have viewpoints that are completely opposite than the city or state they live in. A hardcore conservative from California. A hardcore liberal from Alabama etc.
I'm curious what % of posters here are from areas that have the same political viewpoint they do compared to different political viewpoints.
Thankfully the citizens have pushed back on the plastic bags, and the first national ban on, horrors, plastic grocery bags has been halted, and will be heading to the ballot in 2016.
California should be leading the country in so many economic measures, instead, because of unchecked liberal/progressive control, it's a leader in poverty, welfare rolls, taxes, regulations, and unemployment.
Awesome legacy of the liberal/progressive at work.
If anyone wants to see what damage liberal politics does, California is a perfect example of why liberalism should be run out of America on a rail.

I grew up in a very Pro-Republican but not necessarily conservative township near the jersey shore. With little research you can find it. I've moved around since then, and ended up in North Jersey. Dominated by Corey Booker's good little Democrat soldiers and wasting Zuckerberg money.
For reference: Did Mark Zuckerberg's $100 million really help Newark's schools? | The Verge

I spent many happy days at the shore in my youth. I remember when NJ was a very red state.
Belleville is in a pretty Democratic area and always was. My parents lived in North Arlington when I was born but we escaped to the suburbs when I was 1.
North Arlington is literally a stone's throw away from me. The last girl I dated lived thereI work in Newark about ten mins away. Is New England really a suburb of NJ??? We don't usually consider ourselves part of New England. I've lived in Boston, NYC, and Tampa. I'm surprised I'm not a raging liberal but you can find Republicans in each of those towns. Especially Boston. Though it's getting harder and harder to in NYC.
I worked in Newark for 3 years, on Broad Street, overlooking Washington Square Park. Woo those were scary days. I hear it's improved since then.
I will agree the Republican Party is pathetic in California, however, one shouldn't overlook the reality of the situation. One, Democrats gerrymandered the state. Two, unions pushed through the "top two vote getters" law that effectively eliminated any competition in elections. Three, with one out of 5 people receiving some kind of public assistance, the carrot has proved to be an effective tool. Four, with 60% of the nations illegal alien population living in California, the propaganda machine has been in full force, which is not going to favor "order of law" positions the Republicans hold.
California is a lost cause for at least two generations IMO. I'd love to see Republicans do a better job here, but it's really only going to be the small races, and as long as liberal/progressives hold a super majority in Sacramento, there is nothing Republicans can do to stop anything the liberal/progressives want to do. They have absolutely no purpose there, so it's pretty hard to attract candidates willing to battle to arrive and a job they can't do anything with.
So what you're saying is that republicans lose because Latinos won't vote for anyone not Latino and they don't spend enough. I suppose they're kind of ****ed then since immigrants take their politics with them and according to you Latinos are racist.
You may hold that view, but it generally tends to work out that divided communities tend to vote for people they see as one of their own. That's why half the Minnesota legislature is Nordic, that's why south Minneapolis is represented by a Muslim Somali, why Harlem is represented by an African American, and why utahs congress people are all Mormons.
You can bash me all you want for stating reality, that doesn't change anything. A Latino district is unlikely to elect a bitter white clinger to assembly.
How are republicans even going to get through the door? If Latinos are coming in with politics thet favors liberals and they won't even consider anyone but themselves there is no way to gain any ground with them. The republicans might as well walk away from those absurdly racist people and focus their attention elsewhere.
I wasn't aware it was "racist" to vote for a politician that represented your interests.
