I hate rats too. My friend got her daughter one as a pet and tried to get me to touch/pet it. Ewwwwwww no!
I'd have a pet rat if one could be trained to kill and eat stink bugs; better yet if one could be induced to chase away the deer(another destructive pest).I really like pet rats. They're lovely, intelligent, sweet creatures. You get a much better pet in a rat than in any other kind of rodent, I reckon. Rabbits? Stupid, unresponsive baby-eaters.
Funny thing is, I really hate wild rats. Destructive, dirty and defiant. Go figure!
I would have screamed the house down and ran through the wall...
I controlled myself, but I think I would have lost it to see my daughter handle it. She only did that when I wasn't around. (The girl is her best friend.)
You are wise..otherwise you could have passed on your phobia to her..
My youngest son is into snakes..he has a carpet python..doesn't bother me at all.

Being a student in college, my greatest fear is that outsourcing will take all the good paying jobs outside the US. Outsourcing has already moved plenty of engineering jobs towards the middle east, and the way its going a lot more jobs are being moved out.
