Ya know, I'm ok with, no, strongly in favor of, jailing Hunter Biden, probably

He should get whatever deals, jail time, rehabs, etc that is typical for other people with similar crimes and evidence.

I think I speak for most liberals here. When you have more than opinion and speculation about Joe Biden, and show us some actual proof, we will all look at it with an open mind. But until then, it's all just one huge hit piece.

All that said, I'm troubled by the gist of trying to make a criminal negligence case out of a simple drug use case. People on crack are hotheaded, they're LIKELY to be more irresponsible, but the same can be said for drink driving. The penalty should be similar.

I smoked a few joints and drove my Camaro at 120MPH some 35 years ago. Should I go to jail for that? That's not how our justice system works in this country.
 
i think the funniest thing i've see lately is the fox news article that someone posted on twitter where they're saying that Joe supporting his son is bad for his "re-election".

because, you know, parents hate it when other parents support their troubled kids.

So you are advocating for no Jail time. That he was charged at all for the Gun violation was harsh, comparatively. Most aren't even charged for it. The Taxes, which he paid late usually isn't charged either as the government got their money, again, not usually charged when paid, even late.

You can say those words, but it's hard to take them seriously when Hunter's text claiming he hands over half his income to his father has been in the public domain for years now. Same for the email from the Burisma exec thanking Hunter for the off-calendar meeting with then VP Biden.

We are beyond speculation that there might be evidence. There is evidence suggesting (not yet proving) that Hunter was a conduit for a pay for access scheme involving Biden at a time when he was Vice President.

Did you proof what you wrote? Drumpf jr. was representing his father when taking a meeting to get dirt on their political opponent, which allegedly didn't live up to expectations. There is no unbiased collaboration that talks devolved to adoption of Russian children. Yet there were no charges leveled against :poop: Jr.

My point exactly. Perhaps you should write the AG and tell him to get off his ass and investigate Joe. I imagine that will go about as far as Barr investigating Trump. But here's the thing, as I've been saying for some time now, show me real evidence provided by LE, and I'll take a look.

Mr. Garland has stopped taking my calls, but it would not matter. He cannot investigate a sitting US President. This is a job for the House.

My point stands. Your claim that you would consider evidence is not credible seeing as how the evidence has been in the public domain since 2020.

Two things. He can investigate a sitting president; he just can't bring charges. Mueller investigated Trump for almost two years while he was in office.

So far, the house has only shown us speculation. They have on more than one occasion, admitted they don't yet have the proof. If they did, don't you think they would have referred to the DOJ for investigation? Or at least impeached him? They don't have the proof!!!!!

This is going to get really hard for GOP leadership. Supporting Trump is not going to help them at all. Some, a few are already turning against him. Hopefully, that will rub off on the brainwashed rubes.

538's most recent GOP primary polling (6/30) has Trump up on DeSantis by more than 28 points.

This info NatMorton references has been in the public domain for years including in the hands of the GOP. The content of the emails/text about giving his Dad half his earnings is unknown and the context of the dinner meeting has been provided many, many times and continually ignored/rejected by the right yet they accuse liberals of ignoring "evidence", fingers in ears. The GOP, including the Trump DOJ , have not pursued anything "found" on the lap top which is curious.........or have they and they know it's bogus? The later is my leaning.

Another possibility is they believe they have found something, are sitting on it, and plan to release it at some point next year in hopes of damaging Biden's campaign.

I'm highly skeptical that anything is going to matter at this point.

If the MAGA rubes didn't abandon Trump after Jan 6, then they are never going to.

In fact, if Trump is indicted for Jan 6, I think his support among the MAGA rubes will grow even more. And most of the GOP leadership like hopeless, pathetic McCarthy will continue to whine about the "witch hunt" against Trump.

That could be a possibility but I don't think they have the discipline, or the brains, for that type of strategic thinking. I am of the opinion that this entire thing is the 2023 version of the Benghazi crap they used, and admitted so, to discredit Clinton leading up to 2016. They also used discrediting the DOJ and FBI in 2016. Worked very well for them then and they are hoping for the same on 2014.

Agreed. There are plenty of power players in the GOP desperate to move on from Trump but are terrified of a MAGA backlash/third party revolt.

What is it going to take to make the GOP wake up to the fact a Trump candidacy is very likely doomed to fail , a announcement from the No Labels party that they are running a candidate? I thought perhaps they would figure out Trump is a loser and that DeSantis would have a breakout moment but it doesn't look like that is happening at least not yet. Maybe if DeSantis would stop with all his woke BS and start comparisons to Trump head on with the issues, their records and his vision he might be doing better. It's an odd strategy both for team DeSantis and the GOP in general.

I feel like the GOP is trying to navigate a tightrope - avoiding another Trump nomination while at the same time mollifying his MAGAs to ensure they don't jump ship if a different Republican gets the nod.

It's not an enviable position - MAGAs cannot be dissuaded from the belief that any defeat suffered by Donald is evidence of Deep State evil.
