Would Trump mount a third party candidacy?

What will Trump do if DeSantis, or other candidate, is chosen as the presidential nominee?

I would opine that the former POTUS would mount a third party campaign. There are enough voters who seem to support his reactionary populism. It wouldn’t be a stretch for him….

Besides not having enough $$ to do so and I doubt he could raise it...I dont think he'd risk losing again...since he knows he lost the popular vote twice and it would split off some of the GOP voters. His ego is too big to take it.

Of course if he did so to stick it to the GOP, that would be awesome. He's no Republican, he'd run for whoever nominated him...back in 2016 and now.

Last weekend no less than 10 Republicans got on stage in Las Vegas tondeclare rheir solutions for America and gauge the response about a possible 2024 candidacy.

Echoes of 2016, when too many candidates allowed Trump to score a plurality of GOP voters in state after state and secure the nomination? Trump's standing in the party was weakened by the midterms, but a large field of potential opponents plus his rabid base of supporters means he has a solid chance of repeating.

With the fallout of the midterms still settling down one thing I have read is that more of the GOP movers and shakers are getting behind Desantis as the standard bearer for the GOP.

If DeSantis gets the GOP nomination over Trump, how do you think Trump will react?

Retire peacefully back to MAL or will he double down and adopt a scorched earth mindset against the GOP and launch a third party candidacy?
No, Trump will do anything he can to avoid a loss, including running as an "I". He doesn't care about the GOP or anything but himself.

IMO he's just lurching towards disaster as he goes. I'll be happy if he takes the current GOP down with him.

Do the actual hard work of building a ballot-ready party from the precincts on up?

Zero chance.

The party does need reform. Perhaps the GOP should die and start anew. With current leadership, McCarthy and McConnel, not much will change, and things might get worse.
