That just goes to prove my point that stricter gun control does not necessarily lead to safer cities since London and Paris have stricter gun control than Manhattan.

All three very safe cities. You are comparing the best of the best....due to gun control

Characterizations do not resolve the issues of gun control laws. Reasonable people can recognize that urban and rural environments can have entirely different needs for gun controls. It is time to end the emotionally based arguments, until we can get some solid research under our belts as to what would work best in each locale. Europe is not a valid example for what we require in the US, because European governments truly fear an armed populace, such is their history.

When the English first seized control of Ireland, they banned the local populace from carrying fighting blades. The Irish armed themselves with Blackthorn and Hickory shillelaghs, no Englishman was safe walking the streets of Ireland alone at night.

It isn't because of gun control either. Police Dept. theorists are suggesting the combination of the following reasons, gentrification, reduction of lead paint, elimination of leaded gasoline, the immense reduction of the crack epidemic in Manhattan, die off of many drug addicts from AIDs and other diseases, zero tolerance policies for public housing (meaning a family member is convicted of a violent crime, and the family is evicted), and the targeting of gangs by police and Federal authorities (there is now more gang activity in the older suburbs where low housing costs have increased economically disadvantaged populations).

Yeah gun control is just one big coincidence. LOL

How does data and statistics override Constitutional protections?

Read the law. It sets the standards by which the individual counties may issue permits, it is still a home rule law. Enforcement and adherence is still up to the counties.

It is that law which allows individual areas to rule as they do. Which is why in some parts of NY permits are handed out by simply meeting the basic requirements, where as other parts of NY barely hand out any. It is that law which allows "may issue". You can try and deflect it to individual towns all that you want, but plain fact of the matter is that it is that law which allows it.

Dude, we're talking about violent crime in general not just violent crime with guns. I don't know about Paris but London is not safe when it comes to violent crime in general, the place is surging with stabbings.

I await your evidence in comparing it to other cities with lax gun control

Lets be sensible, how is more gun control going to reduce stabbings?

On the rise? From their very low point already.

Well you say cities such as London are safe due to gun control. As I said in post #88 how is more gun control going to stop stabbings? Guns aren't used to stab with.

It reduces crime in general. Many people will not resort to stabbing because that requires close contact. I can shoot you from a distance

They sure resort to stabbing in London.

Do you think London has a lot of murders?

The murder rate in London is soaring, and so is violent crime in general. You're more likely to be mugged in London than in Harlem.

Do you know what it costs to live in Harlem now? You are comparing two very safe cities. Due to gun control. You are making my case
