Above: Humans under tremendous mortal threat do not act like saints or self-sacrificing martyrsI finished up my loaf of bread at a space of three days, that is to say on Sunday so I had to wait till the next Saturday for new one. I was terribly hungry…. I was lying on Monday morning quite dejectedly in my bed and there was the half of a loaf of bread of my darling sister…. I could not resist the temptation and ate it up totally—which at present is a terrible crime—I was overcome by terrible remorse of conscience and by a still greater care for what my little one would eat for the next five days. I felt a miserably helpless criminal…. I suffer terribly by feigning that I don’t know where the bread has gone and I have to tell people that it was stolen by a supposed reckless and pitiless thief and, for keeping up appearance, I have to utter curses and condemnations on the imaginary thief: “I would hang him with my own hands had I come across him.”1– diary entry, May 5, 1944
Above: Killing innocents just trying to survive is a war crime.Seven women had been digging potatoes in a field. There was no flour in their district, and they were desperate for food. Suddenly two German planes appeared from nowhere and dropped two bombs only two hundred yards away on a small home. Two women in the house were killed. The potato diggers dropped flat upon the ground hoping to be unnoticed. After the bombers had gone, the women returned to their work. They had to have food. But the Nazi fliers were not satisfied with their work. In a few minutes they came back and swooped down to within two hundred feet of the ground, this time raking the field with machine-gun fire.18
Above: The lesson which was forgotten or intentionally unlearned by too many modern Israelis is in the above quote.Once, when my father was still alive, he came home from the synagogue and said, “There is a man dying on a bench.” He asked my mother to give me a bowl of soup and send me to feed the dying man. This bowl of soup was the children’s soup. I went to the synagogue. The man was really dying. I tried to feed him, holding his head with one hand and feeding him with the other. He swallowed slowly but he swallowed, he was very hungry. The next day he died. I was the last person to see him. He told me that he came from Warsaw, he had a family and was very wealthy, and if I could rescue him he would give me everything he had. And he died. When I came home my parents said to me, “You did a big mitzvah.” From a Jewish religious point of view, maybe I did what I had to do, but believe me I was jealous of every spoonful I fed him, as I wanted to eat it myself. I was very hungry. At this moment I saw the Angel of Death in front of my eyes.114
All quotes from:
I was reading this book about the Warsaw, Krakow and Łódź (Woodge) Ghettos and the descriptions of suffering and cruelty could apply to the early 1940'a as easily as the mid 2020's.
The parallels between the plight of Jews in the Warsaw, Łódź (Woodge) and Krakow Ghettos in Poland in 1944 and the Palestinians in Gaza is heartbreaking. Some of the descendants of the victims of old have become the perpetrators of similar crimes today in all except scale.

'Food is not political,' WFP head says as U.S. cuts aid and Israel blocks help to Gaza
The World Food Programme says it has delivered the last of its food in Gaza and warned the kitchens it has been supporting would run out of food in days. Nick Schifrin spoke with Executive Director Cindy McCain who says a lack of funding has forced WFP to cut 30 percent of its staff as it faces...

Cindy McCain has announced that the World Food Program - the largest distributor of humanitarian food in Gaza has run out of stored food in Gaza and cannot get in any more due to the State of Israel's blockade of Gaza. She expects wide spread famine especially in Northern Gaza but also throughout the besieged territory. Meanwhile Israeli air and artillery strikes are hitting desperate women and children foraging for food and wood or lining up at food distribution points before the humanitarian organisation's food runs out completely. What is happening in Gaza is pure evil and now, more than a year after the heinous terrorist attacks by Palestinian militants, the preponderance of that pure evil is being done by agents of the State of Israel under the direction of the Netanyahu Government. How the wheel has turned.
Palestinian civilians are human beings today just as Jews were and still are human beings today. The killing of either peoples in a systematic way is genocide either way. Stop turning away. Stop applying double standards. Stop embracing the politics of ethnic hate and the crimes which flow out of that hate.
Be well, be wise and be ethical.
Evilroddy.
