Time to move the US games to other countries? It was hard enough to get a tourist visa for most fans, but is near impossible now. Trumps goons and other factors.. does that make holding the second biggest sports event in the US an impossibility?

The only viable alternative that hasn't hosted recently is England and FIFA would rather stage the cup on the moon than give it to England.

The cup would be the most profitable and cheapest to host in history in England as we have enough stadiums to host and have shown time and again we make shitloads of money with sporting events but nope, FIFA has a vendetta against us.

London will host back to back superbowls before a world cup.

Wembley is glorious for a WC final.

Yep.

We've bid a few times and lost so badly (the last time we got 1 vote from the guy we send to the voting committee despite having the best technical bid) last time that it became obvious that no matter how good our bid was it was going to be ignored.

They gave the cup to a nation that doesn't play football and needed to move the entire competition to the winter because playing sport in the desert in summer was so stupid.
It's like deciding to play the world series of baseball in the UK and then realising we don't have any stadiums and nobody here cares about the sport.

I've struggled with the idea of broadening the WC to developing nations and mainly because of the massive endeavor it is in countries which don't have the infrastructure in place to host but also won't benefit from the development after the fact.

Qatar didn't even need the stadiums so they got rid of them.

FIFA need to kick the USA to the crib. Trump will cause a nightmare. People will not want to come.

People do want to come, but cant due to long visa times... at least from everywhere but Europe.

lol

No, they no longer trust the US government. If you do, that is on you.

Considering the lives lost in their construction, it's quite the example of rampant waste.
That was overblown big time, and stupid. The numbers that floated around included natural deaths and car accidents (both in the majority of deaths) and was over like a decade.

Also funny how no one complained when Dubai was built or Saudi Arabia built its oil industry and infrastructure with the same type of workers..

And so the comedy of terror begins, JD Vance guaranteeing sellouts at the games to be played in Canada and Mexico:

Someone needs to explain to Vance that the people with enough money to come to the WC are not the same people as the millions of people hoping to escape poverty and/or persecution by trying to come to the US to live. The WC people will be delighted to go back to their home countries once the football is over. A Trump US is not such a desirable place for a foreigner who is already living just fine at home to emigrate to.

Don't worry they will find a few who got a parking fine or arrested for jaywalking and they will be made an example off.

The 1994 World Cup was the first profitable one in the history of the competition.

Yes, the one in which England needed help from the officials to win did not make money. Wow, that was a long, long, long time ago.

A world cup in England would cost almost nothing as we already have the stadiums needed.
It would be almost pure profit and if you look at the history of events in the UK you'll see that they make money hand over fist.
There's a reason the tennis ATP tour finals were in London for so long.
It made an absolute fortune.

Wait are you saying other countries don't have as many stadiums?
That sounds a bit wild to say.

Cost almost nothing? You have a strange way of looking at things.

Yep.
Football is huge in England and we have much more high end stadiums ready for a world cup than almost any other country.

Qatar had to build every stadium from scratch and even Russia had to build a bunch and they are also have a very established football league.
This isnt a boast it's just the way it is.
Loads of teams in England are upgrading their stadiums right now including the team I support which is Luton Town.

I have no idea where they got the cost estimate as that's way out.
I think it's more like $250m.

Though the timeline on the US going up in flames vs the imponderable Club World Cup we are soon to experience could precipitate issues of countries refusing to return for a World Cup held there.

Living here in the USA I can only laugh at that statement.

What does the US have? 10 for every 1 in England? 20?
