What to do at work when the only emails coming in are ads for seminars? Schedules are updated, costs analyzed. Even a few emails seeking emails in return were sent, all to no avail. I'm bored to tears.

Going home is an option. But, the minute I leave, a dozen emails will sail in, and then I'll be stuck answering them out on my deck with my wife asking why I left the job early if all I planned to do the rest of the afternoon was work. A man can't win.

I did send a text to an old friend. Turns out he's looking for a job. So, I asked him to email me his resume. It hasn't come in yet either.

I really am bored. Maybe I'll call for a meeting. That way I can bore a few others.

Seriously, have you ever had one of those days?

I understand. Before I retired and was much younger, working at various Observatories, I remember going to work at sunset, getting a notice to photograph XXXWhat-ever.
Just before the darkness crept in a cloud bank would be fairly close. In those day's the person had to look through a telescope that was hooked to the main one ('bout 2 meters wide)
At that time, scopes/mounts didn't have the ability to absolutely follow what you were photographing. The mounts had slight errors because of the high magnifications ..at times 2200X
So the human had to correct the errors. Anyway, I'd sit there, in the small cage and look at the clouds head for us knowing it was that magical time when I would rather watch "3's company" than what I'm about to do..nothing, repeat 4356 times. (I hated that damn show almost as much as Orange man. I take that back..worse than Orange man. Eventually though the sky would be clear and you felt that same happy feeling one gets when sitting at a restaurant and see the waiter bringing your food.
Of course, I've held office jobs also and can sadly relate to your feelings. I know that feeling when you go home and know damn well THIS was the day you should have stayed.

The pace rapidly picked up shortly after submitting my op. Now, I’m in a situation of the opposite degree. I’m wondering if I can get out of here before 6pm.

The main reason I slowed down my home improvement business.

Tired of the calls 24/7/365
I hear ya. I left the office around 5:30, after getting that call you mention at a little past 4:00. But, it was good, the caller wanted to buy something, IMEDIATELY!

The bad news is I landed in a traffic jam on my home, fatal wreck shut down the highway. Thankfully, my detoured route was only about fifteen minutes longer that the usual path home.

Wow, that fatal wreck went down at roughly the same time when I considered leaving early. Some nut flew across the median to crash into a car going the opposite direction, my direction. Good thing I didn’t leave.

Follow up:

2:30 crash time could well have coincided with my early departure from work. Although the odds of being the guy hit were slim to none, it's still uncanny.

Lesson learned: It's always best to stay at work.

When I'm not dodging car wrecks by killing time at work, I focus on making the company owners money. Turns out, I am really good at it.

I never realized that I would get off on maximizing the return on investment for other people. I'm usually a selfish sort. Of course, making them money means I get more: raises, bonuses, commissions, etc. But, still, I am more servant than oligarch, which certainly was never in the "plan."

I guess I've learned to accept my role.

Have the meeting bring donuts, everyone will be happy

I usually get on the xbox while I watch outlook and teams for signs of activity on those days.
