Also the asymptomatic cases are a problem.. a big one. Here in Spain, before you can get a doctors appointment for some sort of treatment or scan, you need a covid test. Here tons of asymptomatic cases (a majority at one point) were discovered. There was no symptoms and hence no idea they had it.. but they were spreading it regardless.

And the last paragraph is key. I just learned from a radio interview that there are two categories for those that test positive: infected versus diseased. A large percentage of positive-test people never get the disease- they are asymptomatic.

Testing isn't perfect and it doesn't appear to be a problem with the test systems but something with the virus itself. A positive is a positive and with minuscule false positive/contaminated specimen cases a positive result can be trusted.

The problem is with the negative results. There are some people who have the virus who continually test negative even though they are symptomatic. These patients went on to have a procedure called a BAL (Bronchoalveolar lavage) - testing those washings was the only way to get a positive test result from these people. We don't understand what it means that such an obviously positive patient is testing as negative and we also don't know the percentage of these false negative people. There is a huge variation of specimen collection techniques too. Some people are just swabbing the nares instead of doing a nasopharyngeal collection. Certainly we are not going to the other extreme and perform an invasive BAL to get specimens for testing though.
We test all patients being admitted into the hospital and do get a few surprise positives from asymptomatic patients who came into the ER with non-Covid related issues.
My point is - don't look to testing as a panacea. It's just a tool. A great tool but not a perfect one.

RV sales were through the roof with people needed them as a place to live as they fled. Yes? And I said "living with - and living longer with". In 1950 the life expectancy was just at 68 years. In 1960 the obesity rate was 14% - today it approaches 50% and yet our life expectancy still went up through those years. That falls into my "living longer with" category. It isn't that the patients magically became healthier - its that they were living longer in spite of themselves. Any healthcare system can only do so much when the patients are clearly working against it. In 1959 there were roughly 1 million people with type 2 diabetes - by 2016 that number increased to 24-ish million. Even the UK is no longer seeing rises in life expectancy and recently theirs fell by 6 months. It's so easy to criticize a statistic that only shows the end result and not the nuances. But then if you know anything of statistics you'll know of "There are lies, damn lies, and then there are statistics." There was another saying I recall - something like "There's a reason you don't see an elderly obese person. "
