Will the Government Shutdown in a Week?

Will the Government Shutdown in a Week?

I've been right here in the USA except when I was either stationed overseas or traveling.

I reiterate, the GOVERNMENT does not shut down.

No Senators go home without pay. No Representatives do. The President and his Staff get paid. All the Supremes get paid. Military personnel get paid, FBI, CIA, NSA, etc., etc., etc.,...

As long as the people who (allegedly) represent us and those other "essential services" get paid, as far as they are concerned the government is still in business.

Which makes me wonder...WHY are we paying for non-essential services at all???
I tend to think the stuff they call "non-essential" is more like "less-essential".

Edit: By which I mean: "important, but not so important well lose lots of money, materials, work already accomplished, or people (in that order of importance) if we don't fund it for a bit".

Why would it shut down ?

Racist, it isn't Irish. I wrote it down to try however.

Its pretty darn good  Even socialists like a diverse whiskey.... But this one loves that Kentucky bourbon.....

Why would it shut down ?

because the tealiban made a new law that says republicans must get everything they want all the time, every year, or they will destroy the american economy..... because 'merica

One day we will be the assholes in a bar yelling at eachother over politics and whiskey! :party

I have a friend that I do that exact thing with. You would fit right in. As a matter of fact we are attacking global warming tomorrow night.

If I get some of that bourbon and it sucks I will never let you forget about it. I mean like Ezra Brooks kind of suck.

You assume that you will "have access" to 24/7/365 government provided facilities (as was included in the contract).

Obviously the contract language must cover the situation you mentioned. With great risk, comes great reward. As I said, play with fire, you might get burned.

How about just two examples....

Example one....those essential employees you're talking about. They're not actually getting paid during the shutdown. Part of that is because there is no money for it. Another part of it is because the entire departments that handle payroll, along with the individuals at the end points at various offices who input and manage time and attendance, are "non-essential.

Example two....TRAINING is "non-essential", at least from the agencies I've seen. So while a federal LEO may be "essential", the guys training him aren't. I'd hardly think that people would be in favor of having new federal LEO's brought on board with 0 training because we can't pay "Non-essential" people.

Will the Government Shutdown in a Week?

do you mean, will a very small portion of the government shut down?

because we all know the government never truly shuts down

so many parts of it are considered essential they keep working no matter what

so will approx 18-20% of the government shut down? no

Yeah, no kidding. The only things that shut down are the things that inconvenience us.

During the last shutdown all but 'essentials' were furloughed (well...most, but thats a long story). Essential personnel are the bare bones staff required to operate a facility. Switchboard, law enforcement, medical, power plant, etc. Part time Victim Advocates, suicide response teams, etc where all deemed nonessential but on call. That was a messed up time. 'Essential' basically means life, health, and safety. Its really rather silly. Contract support personnel went to work but with no none to support were essentially on a staycation.
