According to TASS news agency, the children asked their adult instructors to cancel the rafting trip amid warnings of an advancing Atlantic cyclone, which advising everyone against boating on the lake.
"Now the investigators also have information that when the group planned to go on a trip, the children told the instructors not to go rafting as there were rumors at the camp about a storm warning, but despite this the instructors insisted on the trip," Markin told TASS.

We couldn’t afford summer camps when I was a kid, but we went camping the whole summer. As a family group even the youngest of us would save monies to rent out a spot at the state camp ground in NH. Soon the whole extended family had adjoining sites and it became a tradition. The Dads would commute up each weekend and any moms that couldn’t get time off had other family members supervise there kids during the week. It’s wasn’t fancy but it was fun, we had a left large surplus canvas army tent that at time slept ten or more. To this day the odor of wet moldy canvas brings back great memories.
