Why Trump is digging in on separating families at the border

Meanwhile, Trump will continue the immoral and barbaric practice of deliberately separating children from their parents and blaming the Democrats, but yes, Congress needs to act once and for all. Unfortunately, Congress is dysfunctional and unlikely to be able to solve this problem.

My post, in case you didn't notice, didn't mention Trump. It did mention one of the reasons behind detaining so many illegals at the border: So the private, for profit prisons could make money.

If the government were actually serious about ending illegal immigration, they'd enforce the law against hiring illegals. Why do you think they don't do that?

Children who's parents are detained are not allowed to remain with them. Would you rather Trump not detain anyone? Would you rather Trump broke the law and kept the children with the parents when they are detained? Tell me...what laws do you want Trump to pick for enforcement?

Me? I don't want him to pick. I want the laws changed. btw, so does Trump.

As I said...fix the problems that made this all necessary.

Now...as to why Congress won't fix the problems...which includes the issue of those who hire illegals...that also has to do with money. Specifically donor and lobbyist money that Congressmen are getting. Congress is getting paid to not fix the problems.

Baloney. Obama, known as the “deporter in chief” by some advocates, concentrated on different groups of aliens, in particular but not exclusively those who had committed crimes. Prez has extraordinary flexibility and discretion here.

Trump is "digging in" because he is insisting on getting the Millerized Immigration bill and nothing less. Of course the utterly unscrupulous MSM insists on focusing on the Wall because it is the bight, shinny, sound bite sized item. They have no interest in dealing with what is actually Trump's play here though even that is not all that complicated. They barely give Trump's actual play here more than occasional lip service.

Trump is trying to control the boarders, crossing were up big three months in a row so he sprung into action with a new disincentive to cross....that is what this is about.

No its not. Its about getting the immigration bill before the Senate and House go into full campaign mode for the mid-terms.

I have heard this, it is wrong. He wants to go before the people this fall and argue that is approach is working to cut down on the crime, and it did work all of last year, but something changed early this year.

Yes, Trump could refuse to enforce the law, much like Obama did during his Presidency, but Trump won't do that.

Then he stands against the 2/3rds of Americans. Sometimes people are their own worst enemy, some Repubs in Washington are realizing this, trump never will.

Sorry, but 2/3rds of Americans can't tell Trump which laws to enforce and which ones not to enforce. Those 2/3rds only have the option to tell their Congressmen to pass or not pass laws.

No its not wrong. Donald himself is honest about it on a ratio of about 1:4 comments/tweets. The other 3 comments/tweets claims something else like:
- the dems did it
- MS-13 is at fault for it
- the smugglers are doing it
- Go ask Jeff Sessions. He will tell you that we are the hand of God at work

Sorry for the error. I guess that makes it 1:5.

Truth is, Donald does not want any Immigration which is about what would result from the Immigration bill he wants. Funny thing about that is that the Drumpf family (Donald's real family name) would not have made it here under the terms of the Immigration Law he and Miller are insisting on.

More illegals were deported under Obama than under other presidents, yet there were no cages full of kids crying for their parents. There are better ways of enforcing existing laws.

Obama had his cages. He also did what Trump won't do...decide not to enforce the law. The result: Thousands of illegal aliens roaming around in our country and we have no idea where they are.

And this could easily be fixed by Congress...if they wanted to.

As stated above in blue, Trump could end this cruelty with a phone call. But Trump would rather appease his core base than do what is right.

And that notion ... (a select few are more important than the will of the country writ-large) is a very selfish and dangerous ideology. A big **** you to the American people.

We have laws. Do not like the law, have Congress change it.

That is how things work.

Obama had a Democrat Congress for 2-years and could have changed this. He did not.

Instead, he and his party have assisted the human traffickers, and put a lot of lives in danger.

Obama did not take children away from parents and put them in cages. Neither did any other president. How do you think Bush, Clinton, Bush I, Reagan, any of them enforced the law?

Obama deported more illegals than other presidents.

It is not necessary to keep children in cages and deport the parents.

Yes, Congress could fix this, and so could the president.

This is an atrocity, a black mark on the history of this great nation on a scale with putting Japanese Americans in concentration camps. At least there was an excuse back then, as we were at war with Japan.

Politics as usual. The bill that Trump and Miller have cobbled together earlier in the year is now the so-called compromise bill because there is now and even more draconian bill hung out there as the truly draconian bill. Neither will pass.

Fixing the law to prevent this from happening is always better than leaving it up to the whim of a President. We have a Congressman who has proposed a bill to fix the law. Here is the reaction from the leading Senate Democrat:

JUST IN: Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer says he would rather 'keep the focus on Trump' than support bill which keeps illegal immigrant families united at the border

Now that puts the whole thing into the REAL Democratic perspective, doesn't it? Schumer would rather target Trump...just like you are doing...than actually do his job and fix crappy laws.

I suggest you redirect your faux outrage toward those who are actually responsible...the ones who created the law and won't fix it.

I have been focusing my outrage exactly where it belongs, on Donald Trump who is basically holding children hostage until he gets his border wall, or at least was until this afternoon.

Two good things I can now say about Trump:

He ended the barbaric practice of separating families, and
He hasn't started a war.

He's getting better!

Shrug...

The court will tell him to continue separating them.

Nothing will change.
