Sums it up nicely.

The United States, with it's lack of direction, mismanagement and personal gain as the omnipotent political aspiration is a recipe for eventual national disaster.

Our government has not wisely thought through the perils of allowing our nation to become so heavily dependent on China's breast at the cost of our own manufacturing base not to mention providing the funds for China to build one larger than our own. Simply put, politicians have thrown the nation under the bus.

Americans in turn have become so accustomed to having virtually everything they want that the prospect of not being able to have that new car or that new cell phone or those 100 sports channels and MTV is practically an unbearable thought in such a privileged. overly materialistic society.

China CLEARLY sees Americas jugular and is poised to deliver the death blow....albeit one step at a time.

Is one party more at fault than the other?
What do you feel the US needs to do at this point to prevent the coming meltdown?

That's an old chestnut.

So somebody wants to be a bull in a China shop. Not smart.

The Chinese military has gained a lot of political power over the years, and a degree of independence. The civilian government should have stopped that, but they didn't.
We have good relations with China, and we work with the Chinese government to manage the inevitable tensions.

You don't have to like it, but you do have to lump it. The alternatives are much, much, much worse.

It seems to me, a country that depends on other countries to build it's goods, no longer controls it's own destiny.

Our national policies and internal controls have thrown away our manufacturing advantages, and left the US as servicers of other countries goods. That has had a negative impact on employment, and income.

We need a paradigm shift involving trade and regulatory mechanisms to rebuild our domestic manufacturing base. Further, global trade must involve reasonable quid pro quo, and rejection of the globalist objective that obsesses on economic justice across all Nations. That should not be an issue the United States concerns itself with.

It was actually discussed, when Nixon/Kissinger opened up to China. It is not really a new subject, but we have no answer as yet.

It is not China's fault. It is poor economic management by a US cadre of inept politicians, bureaucrats, and kleptomaniacs. Now the NEOCON/NWO megalomaniacs seem to be willing to generate a third worrld war to accomplish what they failed to do economically. The USA is deeply indebted financially and has no infrastructual base to create locally driven National programs to alleviate the situation. "Throw the bums out" is the solution but may be cathartic for a short time. Perhaps Trump can do that since he doesn't have any obvious IOUs to slimy sobs that have created this mess. Big Energy, Big Banks, Big Pharma, Big Ag, Big Intelligence agencies have caused the current morass and that's a tough nut to crack for a newbie Prez. We'll see. You might pray. I don't promise that any dieties are listening, but it's like meditation and can give a sense of relief.

So you are saying let China have the entire Sea ?
So you are saying we should do nothing about China's bullying and unfair trade practices and currency manipulation?
If you read the article, it gave some very clear reasons why your strategy is the one that has been tried and the severe consequences already taking place.

We have good relations with China so long as we play by China's rules and adhere to China's demands. Again, that is the point of the article.

The difference is that at that time China wasn't a military rival. They are rapidly approaching that position.
Also at that time, China had not begun an Imperialistic campaign as they are now.
You are aware of their prolific "investments" into other countries buying up assets, power grids and infrastructure right? They are NOT planning to remain just an Asian power.

As the article points out, China is planning LONG term....and it sees itself AS THE global dominating power as per it's perception of itself in history.

Defeating and subjugating the West (especially the United States) is not an option, it's required and is planned. We are fools to assist in that end but we are.

Love it when someone says our empire is a helpless victim.

If you don't mind, could I panic manana?

Edit: if you want to have a serious conversation, don't start out in a hyperventilating swivet.

It is the USA that has imperialistic ambitions with military bases in 140+ Nations. It is the USA that has manipulated currencies forever. The USA attempts to assert hegemony over China has caused the reaction by China. They will control their own banks. They will control their own shipping lanes. They will invest overseas in a manner that is conducive to growth and stabilty for their economy. They will continue managing a society that has remained coherent and reasonably stable for 5,000 years. The USA and its' NWO/NEOCON wanna' rule the World cadre are the greatest threat to World peace and stability. China just tries to do its best for its' 1.4 billion citizens and that is an awesome endeavor. The USA is a thorn in the side to a Nation 7-8,000 miles away. We are attempting to control Chnese sea lanes. We are attempting to control International finances. We are attempting to surround China with missile bases. We are run by a bunch of morons whose big picture is money. Unfortunately, the USA represents debt, not money.

Sigh.

No.

You have a point, but you take it too far. China is ignoring treaties, building islands so they can push their zone of control out further. Pac command has done a great job. Seriously, you won't find me saying that about any other branch in the service.

Part of this was as inevitable as when we did it a couple hundred years ago. I agree we need to transition out of that damned Cold War mind set. But our goal in the region is stability (which should have been our goal in the ME, and elsewhere), and we are managing the transition better than we are doing in other theaters.

You don't suppose the Chinese remember our little debacle in Vietnam, do you? If we controlled Vietnam, we would control the Straits of Malacca and some have stated that as the reason for the war, but OIL in the South China cannot be overlooked. We took the Phillipines in a War, and kept that Nation oppressed by supporting the likes of Marcos. The Western Pacific is not our backyard and the South China Sea isn't even close. If our goal in the region is stability, then please explain our great successes at instability in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Syria, etc. The USA currently spreads chaos, destruction and death in too many Nations. That's the track record, not some fantasy. Reality flashback. I don't think China wants help from us because it can see those Nations we have helped clearly and pronounce them Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, maybe Ukraine, Somolia, Sudan, etc.
