Why is it freedom is fought.

You didn't answer my question. Are you [James D Hill] pro-freedom?..... or just "pro freedom for things you LIKE... and not for other things". :lamo:

He's pro one specific “freedom” (drugs), and a few other random ones that he's picked out just so that he doesn't sound like he only cares about the one; none of which have anything to do with genuine, meaningful freedom.

I get plenty of likes on my threads…

You've nothing about which to boast there.

LikeRatio.webp

{345 1739 ÷} gives 0.198 likes per post; a very low rate.

By comparison, I have {2981 4197 ÷} 0.710 likes per post.

I don't know that I would claim that this ratio of likes to posts is a useful measurement of anything, but if it is, then I am more than {0.710 0.198 ÷} 3.58 times better than you.

As to a sober work force, I'm thinking sober factory workers might be a reasonable idea, given the potential to kill massive numbers of fellow workers with a slip up on the shop floor.

As someone who works in a factory, who spends most of the day driving a vehicle that weighs four times as much as a typical car, and who works around all sorts of other potentially dangerous machinery, I can say that someone like Mr. Hill would very very much unwelcome in my workplace. Remaining sober, alert, and clear of mind is literally a matter of life and death in my workplace. A drugged out cretin would be a serious danger to himself and to everyone else.

Absolutely true. I have been fortunate to own manufacturing businesses for many years. Currently I own a company that manufactures very large electrical equipment. Some of our units weigh in excess of 25,000lbs, and are moved and loaded by high capacity fork lifts. One wrong move, and someone becomes floor art.

I know that focused, hard working people like you wouldn't tolerate a fool like Hill for one second in that environment.

That is what freedom is.

So am I "free" to duct tape your mouth shut (and Mr. Hill's) so I don't have to listen to such asinine ideological ideas as to what freedom should mean in America?

I am just saying that if I was a moron and my post sucked then I would not have so many likes. I never said I was the best or better that you just that I have had my time in the sun also my friend.

I hate to say it my friend but your side is losing the culture wars and the sooner your side admits it the better off they will be.

I said I am for the second amendment. I own a shotgun. I think civil liberties should be respected on all fronts. That said I don't think you should be able to own a rocket launcher,a tank or a AK-47.

Hatched during the neighborhood hukafest, eh?

If you were not a moron, and your posts did not suck, then you would have a much higher Like/Post ratio than you do.

You would think a country that likes to call its self the land of the free would not fight so hard to keep people from being free. Gay rights is a freedom issue and it is being fought bigtime by the moral crusaders.

They fight against changing the definition of marriage. Gay people are free to practice gaiety.

The war on drugs is a big time violation of our personal freedoms and the moral crusaders are against that too as they are against abortion rights. These same hypocrited fought against the ERA and ending the ban against iner racial marriage.

The war on drugs is stupid, I'll grant you that. You confuse freedom with consequences. You are free to take all the drugs you like. But there are consequences. You are free to commit theft, murder and arson. But there are consequences. Life is full of consequences as you will discover when you mature. The laws against inter racial marriages were state laws, not federal laws.

If we are serous about being a free country then these moral crusaders need to be stopped at every turn because they are the enemy of freedom and mean us all no good.I say to them if they don't like these things then don't engage in them and stay the **** out of the way of true freedom.Practice what you preach. If Sean Hannity starts his show off with "Let freedom ring" then he should be for freedom not big brothers dictating morality.

I agree that the government shouldn't legislate morality. But it should and does legislate against behaviors that hurt people. You know, the theft, murder and arson mentioned above. So pick your poison and do what you can to change the laws. Whining about them here won't change anything.

Oh yes, but when Social Security, Medicare, and taxes interfere with our liberty it's ok.

The reason freedom is fought over so much in my opinion, is because moral crusaders have a certain way of looking at life and how life should be everywhere. Plus there's so many interpretations of what freedom is, so there cannot be a consensus on what it would mean for people to be free or not free.

Freedom to smoke weed!

Potheads unite - if you can actually find each other when stoned out of your minds.....

You exaggerate freedom to mean "do whatever in the **** you want".

So long as your whatever doesn't violate the rights of anyone else's whatever that is precisely what it means.

Of course we could get all philosophical and start talking about the whatever enslaving the person engaged in it, but then that's an internal conflict. No one else's business but their own...

Freedom is fought over because of entitlement. People believe that they are entitled to vote on how everyone else should be allowed to live, and it pretty much goes downhill from there.

The beauty of the constitution of the United States of America is how short and to the point the whole thing is. Law should be the same, and should only cover things that are in the best interests of everyone:

- Respect other people and their property
- All trade, transactions and agreements must be made voluntarily, without use of coercion, fraud, or force
- If you intend to commit actions that may negatively affect others around you, you must gain their permission first

OK, maybe that third law needs fleshing out a bit, but how many more laws does a society need? Do there really have to be so many that it's not even possible for a single individual to know and understand all of them clearly? How are people supposed to start businesses, perform due diligence or give legal consent to anything if it's all made so difficult that even the people who are paid to enforce the rules don't understand them half the time? The whole thing in its current form is just a mind game. The only way to stop it is to abstain from voting on what those around you do with their lives, and try to persuade those around you to grant you the same courtesy.

"Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds" ;)

There are only rights not gay rights. They have the same rights as the rest of us. You mean immoral crusaders.

Yay you got something correct

You mean the right to murder the innocent?
