Christianity posits that man falls short of the glory of god and is cursed with sin (which is pretty much not following god’s law, yeah thats not actually a curse). This posits that since man is not like god (which im pretty sure such a requirement would be akin to blasphemy in Jewish scripture) he deserves eternal torment. Why is falling short of perfection deserving of torment? Can you imagine any human leader positing that rule? He would rightly be tarred as a monster. Imperfections are what make us unique and who we are, why is that deserving of punishment? This is an insanely black and white view.

Some Christians believe that God would demand that kind of torture here on earth during a lifetime too.

For example, even those that manage to believe that people are born gay, they insist that God would want them to deny their attraction and go their entire lives without true love. Without creating a family with someone they love and share intimacy with.

As a Christian also, I dont believe for a minute that God is that cruel and I believe that any such references in the Bible are the work of fallible men of the times, writing to their own agendas. It's just one of such "teachings" that God would never have proclaimed.

Being gay isnt a sin, it in no way breaks God's Word of compassion, forgiveness, brotherly love, and peace.

"God" is an abusive parent.

Mind you this is aimed at christians who believe god is such a being who would do the things described in the op only.

OK, I'll stay out of it. I just like to remind them that much of what they do and say is very unChristian.

By the way, according to this fairytale, it's not merely "imperfection" that is deserving of eternal torture, but imperfection that is knowingly imposed on us by the entity who insists on torturing us for eternity because of it.

It's hard to imagine a worse kind of monster. Best horror fiction ever.

Like most parts of christianity what it posits here is not an original idea . The christians simply borrowed it and changed a few details. The idea of a hell goes back as far as sumeria. And probably has origins deeper than that.

Rewarding the best and the strongest among tribes in primitive times would have been a survival skill as the young would compete for the honours. Religion has taken this skill and used it for their purpose.

That's just it...such a God is a figment of man's imagination...nothing more...

All Gods are a figment of man's imagination.

"Such a God" just happens to be the most widely-possessed figment.
