Why does the media smear every Republican EXCEPT Romeny?

You're kidding, right? Romney gets called out for flip-flopping and for his past, and for MassCare.

More flip flopping will not affect his poll numbers, people support him just because they think he can win. The only thing that could hurt him now is a personal scandal.

However, the left is not attacking him, and they are attacking the other candidates more. That is because they believe he is going to be the candidate, so they want to wait with the ammunition.

The mainstream right is not attacking him either, because Karl Rove wants him to be nominated, and the different factions of the Tea Party have a tendency to destroy each other.

I don't think it has much to do with anybody deciding who to attack really. Obama has only been running ads against Romney and not bothering with the others so far, but that hasn't been a big factor for any of the candidates in their own primary. IMO its just that Romney is playing it much more cautiously. Where Gingrich or Bachmann or Paul or whathaveyou are trying to basically say as many shocking things as they can to tap into the extremists and get as many headlines as they can (which isn't a totally dumb strategy either), Romney is trying his hardest to avoid saying anything that will put people off. He makes a lot of statements that seem to indicate his general support for some position on something, but don't really take a remotely controversial stance. For example, his stance on immigration is that we should deport undocumented immigrants... The anti-illegal-immigration folks cheer for that, but really he isn't saying anything. Duh, every president we've had for 100 years has deported undocumented immigrants. That's not an actual position on the issue. He does a lot of that. That's why nobody is too excited about him, but nobody really hates him either.

Like in a given day the headlines might be "Romney says he will concentrate on creating jobs" and "Gingrich says we should start using child labor"... That isn't because somebody attacked Gingrich and they're going easy on Romney, it's because Gingrich is trying to be controversial and Romney is trying to be non-controversial.

They are all clowns. None of these people are, have been, nor ever will be serious candidates for POTUS. They are so easy to pick apart.... and then they fall by the wayside. If they were legitimate candidates, they would survive the scrutiny. If the quivers bounce off the armor, the media will give up; but when there is an easy kill at hand, as is this the case with this group, they are going to be killed.

Romney has groups running smear ads on Newt and funded smears on Cain until he self destructed.

I remember Romney blasting McCain as a career politician yet Romney is a career candidate. Romney would have been a career politician if he hadn't lost so many races. He's been a career candidate instead!
